Radiologist duties and responsibilities

A Radiologist is responsible for conducting and interpreting advanced medical imaging. They work alongside a medical team in a hospital, private clinic, or other facilities, to diagnose and treat patients with diseases or injuries. Other duties and responsibilities include:

  • Consulting with other medical professionals to diagnose disease or injury
  • Ordering laboratory tests and other procedures
  • Performing medical imaging procedures
  • Interpreting test results to provide accurate treatment recommendations
  • Studying the causes and development of disease in people

Canada Diagnostic Centres is seeking a skilled and versatile radiologist for a rewarding and well remunerated career as a consultant within our growing outpatient clinic practice in Edmonton, Alberta

Start date is flexible

Remuneration monthly based on a fixed share of fee for service billings.

Vacation is highly flexible.

The ideal candidate should:

  • Be proficient in adult and basic pediatric radiography, including adult GI fluoroscopy;
  • Be proficient in General body ultrasound, Obstetrical ultrasound, Vascular ultrasound, MSK ultrasound, and Breast ultrasound;
  • Be proficient in or demonstrate aptitude for basic image-guided MSK and spine procedures for pain management, under both fluoroscopy and ultrasound as applicable;
  • Be proficient in breast imaging and interventions, including tomosynthesis and ultrasound guided biopsies;
  • Have some experience with or be willing to learn and perform DEXA BMD;
  • Be comfortable in the clinical care of patients as required including history, physical exam, and counselling, including but not limited to women�s health issues;
  • Be comfortable in the emergency care of unwell patients;
  • Be able to successfully manage and cultivate relationships with fellow radiologists and staff, referring physicians, and patients alike.

    Requirements:

  • Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Diagnostic Radiology
  • Up to date CPR certification
  • College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta licensure or eligibility, Diagnostic Radiology (including full approval for ultrasound)
  • Canadian Association of Radiologists mammography accreditation or eligibility
  • CMPA membership
  • Eligible for an Alberta Health and Wellness billing number and practitioner ID

    Cardiothoracic Imaging Radiologist

    Manitoba X-Ray Clinic, Winnipeg, Manitoba

    Manitoba X-Ray Clinic is currently seeking a fellowship trained cardiothoracic imaging radiologist who is Royal College certified in Diagnostic Radiology. This is an Associate position, with partnership track opportunity. The intended start date is flexible.

    Position:

    The position is for a cardiothoracic imaging radiologist to join our primarily hospital based practice. The group provides service for St. Boniface, Grace, Concordia and Misericordia hospitals and an outpatient sports medicine facility. The hospital practices are high volume and include CT, X-ray, ultrasound, fluoroscopy and MRI (at our two tertiary facilities). MRI is covered by subspecialty service. Competency in basic body interventional procedures (imaging guided biopsies and drainages) would be an asset. General call duties are expected and include coverage of CT, US and Xray during the evening and weekends throughout the year. Call duties are split between all members of the group. Competitive remuneration is offered. Candidates must have board certification in Diagnostic Radiology by the RCPSC by their start date.

    Manitoba X-Ray Clinic (MXC) is a highly cohesive and collegial group of 24 academic subspecialty and general radiologists. Both St. Boniface and Grace Hospital are tertiary care centres. The group is affiliated with the University of Manitoba and radiology residents are trained through St. Boniface Hospital.

    • What does a Radiologist do?

    A Radiologist uses radiological equipment to diagnose and treat patients. They work directly with primary-care Doctors to review symptoms and recommend treatments. Their area of expertise is in using medical imaging techniques, which include magnetic resonance imaging (MRIs), computed tomography (CTs), X-rays, ultrasound, and fusion imaging.

    A Radiologist obtains patient records and prepares comprehensive reports on their medical findings. They also supervise and teach medical students. They may be Radiation Oncologists, Diagnostic Radiologists, or Interventional Radiologists. Radiologist Oncologists use ionizing radiation to treat cancer. While Diagnostic Radiologists use non-invasive techniques to examine the body and recommend treatments, Interventional Radiologists diagnose and treat patients using invasive image-guided techniques.

    Radiologist skills and qualifications

    A Radiologist must have various skills to perform their duties and responsibilities. Some important skills a Radiologist needs include:

    Radiologist experience requirements

    As this is a specialized role, a Radiologist needs work experience to perform their duties and responsibilities effectively. They must complete a radiology residency program and have experience conducting medical imaging procedures. Successful applicants have experience leading or supervising a team of technicians. When going through resumes, consider applicants who have internship or volunteer experience.

    Radiologist education and training requirements

    Successful Radiologists have a bachelor of science degree. Alternatively, they have a certificate to show they completed a college program and a year of pre-medicine university studies. They are graduates from an accredited medical school with a certificate that shows they passed the examinations of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. You may ask applicants for medical certifications, such as Certification in Interventional Radiology (CIR).
