Reporting to the General Manager, the Process Production Manager will be responsible for the timely development and implementation of process improvement initiatives while assisting with the day-to-day production operations. This person will assist the Production team with trouble shooting and optimization initiatives. The successful candidate will have experience operating CNC machines and will be responsible for coordinating the activities of the production department to maximize productivity which achieving our goal of superior quality. Responsibilities will include inspecting products to verify production specifications are being met, train new employees, ensure quality standards are being adhered to as well as maintaining health & safety standards while meeting scheduled requirements.

Responsibilities:

- Utilize various continuous improvement methodologies (Kaizen, Lean Six Sigma, etc.) to improve efficiency

- Study and document existing processes to create Standard Operating Procedures for Production team utilizing best practices

- Implement process improvements through utilization of various methods including root cause analysis, Five S, etc.

- Work with Production team to document and investigate quality control issues to effectively prevent similar incidents in the future

- Routinely review operator and process instructions and modify as required while ensuring conformance to actual procedures

- Identify opportunities for cost savings and waste reduction while maintaining high standards of quality

- Work with tooling suppliers to identify ways to improve tool life and utilization

- Establish and monitor processes, systems, procedures, methods and projects designed to promote manufacturing efficiency

- Other duties as required by the business

Qualifications:

- Minimum of 3 years previous experience as Process Engineer Manager in a production environment

- Hands-on approach to problem-solving

- Ability to operate CNC machines if required to ensure that production schedules are achieved

- CNC machine programming and operation experience is required

- Strong planning and organization skills required

- Critical/logical thinking and detail-oriented

- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)

- AutoCAD, CAD/CAM experience is preferred

- Action-oriented and willing to challenge the status quo

- Ability to create accountability and to lead by example

- Must possess effective time management skills and be able to work with minimal supervision

The Production Manager of the Toronto MDF Manufacturing facility is responsible for the overall production of the plant including leadership of the hourly work force, leading and developing the supervisory team, raw material consumption and yield, quality, cost of production and satisfying customer demand. The Production Manager will be involved in continuous improvement projects throughout the manufacturing group. The primary responsibilities of the role are:
Reporting Relationship: The MDF Production Manager, Toronto will report to the Director, MDF Manufacturing – Toronto. The incumbent will have the following direct reports:

• Production Supervisors
• Maintenance Lead
• Toolroom Lead

Responsibilities

• Lead, coordinate, and direct through Supervisors, the production functions of the plant by setting expectations and monitoring delegated activities.
• Maintain a safe working environment by ensuring that all safety and environmental procedures and regulations are followed.
• Develop production plans that minimize the cost of raw materials consumed while maximizing productivity. Oversee the production planning and scheduling functions.
• Initiate improvements to remove bottlenecks, improve quality, and lower costs including Lean, employee training, capital improvements, maintenance (TPM, PM improvements), validating costing data, downtime analysis, production line modifications (3P’s) and the addition of new capabilities
• Be a team leader who develops and engages the production and supervisory team through regular, clear and consistent performance management and individual development planning. Foster an environment of employee engagement by embracing a culture that encourages teamwork, cooperation and continuous improvement.
• Demonstrate leadership in implementing change to institute operational best practices and reduce process variance by driving continuous improvement through Lean activities (5S, SMED, Kaizen events, etc.) in all aspects of plant management.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree, wood science qualifications and business degree an asset.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a production manager or superintendent in a manufacturing environment, or 10 years’ of experience as a production supervisor
• Experience in implementing and driving Lean and Continuous Improvement initiatives in a manufacturing setting. Must have experience driving plant-wide projects and safety initiatives.
• Qualifications in LEAN, Six Sigma or Theory of Constraints.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and improve safety and plant financial performance.
