General Summary

The Lead Teacher is responsible for monitoring and providing support to the instructional area, ensuring that teachers are practicing good instructional management. When Directors are unavailable or not in the Center, the Lead Teacher serves as the point-of-contact for teaching staff and manages Center operations, ensuring a high quality personal customer experience. The Lead Teacher communicates staff performance, customer issues, and student progress to the Center’s Director(s). The Lead Teacher also delivers instruction as needed.

Essential JOB Functions

· Manages teachers, tasks and time to create balanced and robust instructional sessions

· Monitors staff to ensure teachers deliver instruction as designed and that educational Center policies and procedures are followed

· Attends to immediate instructor needs, such as requests for materials or assistance with instruction

· Assumes teacher responsibilities in emergency scheduling or capacity situations

· Assists teachers with preparation for instruction; Gathers materials as appropriate

· Observes and coaches teachers on a regular basis

· Checks students in and out of the Center

· Greets and assists students, parents, and potential customers according to Sylvan standards with particular attention to student safety and well-being

· Opens and closes the Center according to procedures, securing all materials

· Fields inquiry calls, takes payments, updates schedules, and books appointments for Directors

· Makes outbound marketing or other calls

· Escalates service or other issues that require Director intervention

Knowledge Required
· Four year degree or equivalent required · One to two years teaching experience preferred
· Experience using Microsoft Office and other standard business applications used by the Center

· Knowledge of general office equipment such as copiers, printers, and office phones

Responsibilities

• Managing weekly new student intake: giving placement tests, creating students’ class schedules, assigning students in the database and the roster in the online learning platform.
• Developing material for the online learning platform (continuous development of the curriculum).
• Observing the LMS is functioning properly with the activities in place.
• Daily monitoring of student body and classes: ensuring that students are attending class on time, monitoring and reporting lateness and absences as needed, checking that all teachers are in class and teaching at the scheduled time, paying attention to board work of teachers and language of students when passing by classes to look for any potential problems. • Curriculum design, including reviewing and updating or creating academic materials such as class syllabi, Pathways outlines and written policies.
• The Lead Teacher should also, essentially, double in the role of the headteacher, offering insight and coaching, particularly to newer or less experienced teachers. Common areas requiring attention are: making sure teachers adhere to a CLT (Communicative Language Teaching) style as our pedagogy.
• Dictates, ensuring that teachers’ marks are entered in a complete and timely fashion, helping with classroom management skills and also giving advice for challenging situations with students.
• Overseeing the assessment process for all instructors including internal and external verification processes.
• Ensuring all educational activity is conducted in a legal and ethical manner.
• Participating in professional development activities and programs as required by accreditation/regulatory agencies.

Education and Experience

• Degree in Education, Linguistics, Pedagogy or equivalent required.
