Position Summary The Junior Accountant provides administrative support to the Finance Department with a focus on processing Accounts Payable (AP), administering the BC Gaming Account, relief payroll processing and general accounting department functions. The Junior Accountant will perform accounting duties in compliance with established internal controls, maintaining databases, systems, processes, financial records and reports with the highest regard for confidentiality and accuracy. The Junior Accountant will communicate with external vendors, external clients and employees in accordance with BGC South Vancouver Island’s Mission and Core Values and adhering to GAAP and organization policies and practices. The Junior Accountant provides financial support services to both BGC South Vancouver Island and Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Victoria Foundation.
Key Responsibilities - Accounts Payable
- BC Gaming Account reporting
- Bank Reconciliations
- Bank Deposits
- Donations processing
- GIC Tracking
- Relief Payroll processing
Desired Qualifications - 2 years’ experience processing accounts payable
- 2 years’ experience with SAGE 50 or similar accounting system
- 2 years’ experience processing payroll for a medium-sized organization
- 2 years’ experience with Payworks or similar payroll system
- Strong skills using Excel and other common Microsoft Office suite programs
- Comfort working in an open office environment
- Excellent attention to detail
- Accurate data entry skills
- Able to juggle multiple and changing priorities with ease
- Customer service skills accompanied by exceptional communication skills
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
- Verifiable proof of double COVID-19 vaccination is required
Additional Consideration Will Be Given To Those Who Have:
- Completion of second level of a recognized accounting program is an asset
- Familiarity with non-profit environment an asset
