What you'll do

BC Hydro’s Supply Chain function is integral to keeping the business running and the lights on. BC Hydro has transformed
its Supply Chain model through the implementation of a full category management capability to ensure the needs of the
business are met in terms of quality, safety, and reliability in what we buy, ensuring optimal total cost of ownership and
creating mutually beneficial supplier relationships. The Category Management (CatMan) Supply Chain team is accountable
for developing and implementing strategies for key categories that account for over 80% of BC Hydro’s annual $2 billion
expenditures. Our job is to ensure BC Hydro is getting the best overall value by strategically managing categories and
suppliers to ensure performance is optimal and risks are mitigated.

We are seeking a strategic leader who can elevate our Category Management practice and guide the development of
category strategies that deliver measurable business value. The mission of the Senior Program Manager - Category
Management Practice Lead is to champion, develop and sustain the Category Management Practice while ensuring
integration with other Supply Chain capabilities and BC Hydro business processes to drive optimal value for BC Hydro. This
role will provide leadership, coaching, guidance and support to category leads, sourcing leads, other practice leads and
various roles throughout BC Hydro that play a part in driving benefits for BC Hydro. This role reports to the Manager of
Category Management Programs and works in partnership with the Category Management Leadership Team, Supply Chain
Leadership Teams, Category Management teams, practices and programs, and business groups.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Promotes and sustains the overall Category Management practice through effective governance, integration across all
practices, persuasive communication and engagement across the Category Management Team and Supply Chain teams.

  • Provides reliable and timely strategic guidance to Category Teams and others with respect to category governance and
the development and implementation of category profiles, strategies and plans.

  • Promotes and ensures use of standards, consistent practices and processes, guidance documentation and document
templates across all Category Management teams and practices.

  • Leads collaboration and coordination with other Practice Leads in Category Management to ensure integration and
planning among practices, and to sustain and evolve the Category Management practice over time.

  • Leads and oversees the sustainment of Supply Chain Workspace (SCW) and future technologies, and ensures standard
approach to the use of SCW and other tools.

  • Coordinates the overall Learning & Development plan across Category Management to ensure a foundational level of
knowledge/competencies on Category Management practices.

  • Proactively initiates and manages internal and external working relationships and builds knowledge of Supply Chain risks,
issues and trends and business needs/drivers.



Our ideal candidate is a seasoned category management professional, with expertise in planning, designing, and managing
complex projects or programs. The individual has a strategic mindset and is an effective collaborator with extensive
facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills. They are proactive, take ownership and are adept at creating and using
influence. Key to their success is the ability to cultivate relationships, foster collaboration, and facilitate discussions involving
multiple stakeholder groups to deliver results.

High Level Role Outcomes:

  • Ensures consistent and repeatable processes are developed and sustained for category governance, category profiles
and strategies.

  • Ensures all Category Management Teams develop category profiles and strategies according to practice guidance.

  • Contributes to the sustainment and advancement of BC Hydro’s category management framework, practices, and
processes.

  • Coordinates practices across Category Management to ensure integration of their processes, plans and work.

  • Has well-established relationships with Category Management Teams, category practices and other Supply Chain Teams

What you bring

  • University degree Bachelor’s or equivalent experience.

  • One or more professional designations (e.g. PMP) and/or certifications is a strong asset.

  • Minimum of 8 years’ strategic level related business experience or equivalent combination of education and experience,
preferably in Category Management Supply Chain.

  • Experience planning and simultaneously managing multiple complex / large projects with ambitious deadlines and
deliverables.

  • Experience leading cross-functional project teams in a complex business environment, with multiple stakeholders and
strategic considerations.

  • Highly skilled in change management.

  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship skills, communications, and coalition building with a high degree of persuasive
influence skills.

  • This is a Full-Time Regular P4 opportunity with the team based at our Edmonds location in Burnaby.

  • Please note this role is classified as a Hybrid role under the flexible work model, which currently includes a mix of working
from home and working in the office. At present, this role is expected to work in the office a minimum of two days per week
however at times it could be more frequent due to operational requirements and does require flexibility.
