Position Overview:

The Asset Protection Specialist (APS) is primarily responsible for preventing and investigating financial loss caused by external and internal theft and fraud. The APS will drive execution of the Company’s Asset Protection strategy by utilizing available tools to minimize loss to the Company. An APS must uphold integrity, support key AP processes, address malicious activity concerns, and prioritize associate and customer safety while staying aligned with store objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Actionable Deliverables

  • Conduct shoplifting apprehensions safely and without physical contact, in compliance with applicable laws and company policies.
  • Inspect physical security of The Home Depot (THD) stores to prevent and deter malicious activity and address discrepancies with store and AP leadership.
  • Document criminal and serious incidents, preserve evidence for legal requirements, and coordinate with law enforcement and court representatives. Build and maintain partnerships with law enforcement.
  • Maintain clear, timely communication with your direct leader to ensure alignment on all investigative actions and outcomes.
  • Maintain open communication with store leadership and associates while partnering to promote AP awareness.

Skills:

  • Experience in investigations, loss prevention, security or studies in a related field.
  • Familiarity with retail operations and shrink prevention.
  • Use of CCTV systems and investigation software an asset.
  • Understanding of external theft surveillance and apprehension methodologies.
  • Excellent analytical skills as well as strong verbal and report writing abilities.

Direct Manager/Direct Reports:

  • Reports to Asset protection Specialist Supervisor or District Asset Protection Manager

Travel Requirements:

  • Some travel required. APS might have multi-store responsibility.

Physical Requirements:

  • May involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving merchandise and tools, climbing a ladder.
  • Extended periods of standing and walking through out the store locations
  • May involve quickly responding to public address system announcements, including customer services calls, pages, and general information.
  • Moving around the store and being able to communicate with and assist associates & customers.
  • Operating a computer and other technology.

Hybrid Work:

  • Job Categorization: Store

Working Conditions:

  • Working within a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekends.
  • Warehouse environment that can be dusty and noisy.
  • Doors are frequently open, causing drafts and interior temperature changes.

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Minimum Years of Work Experience:

  • 1 + year (s) experience in investigations, loss prevention, retail operations, security or studies in a related field.

Minimum Leadership Experience:

  • NA

Certifications:

  • Meet all Home Depot, AP training and certification requirements.
  • Where required, Asset Protection associates are required to maintain a valid and up to date security guard license and/or private investigator license. Not holding a valid security guard license should not prevent an interested candidate from applying to this role.

Other Requirements/Assets:

  • May be required to travel to various stores in the market area.
