Summary
Bittele Electronics is seeking an Export Compliance Officer to support and strengthen the company’s Canadian and U.S. export compliance program. This role will help review customer orders, technical data, end users, destinations, and transaction risks to ensure compliance with applicable export control laws, sanctions requirements, customs rules, and internal procedures.
The successful candidate will act as an internal subject matter expert for export compliance and provide practical guidance to sales, engineering, purchasing, operations, logistics, and management.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Key Responsibilities
- Review customer orders, transaction details, end users, destinations, product applications, and technical data for potential export compliance concerns.
- Conduct restricted-party, denied-party, sanctions, and watchlist screening, and document the results.
- Identify potential export-control, sanctions, diversion, end-use, end-user, and regulatory risks.
- Recommend appropriate actions for transactions, including proceed, hold, escalate, request additional information, or reject where required.
- Support Canadian and U.S. export-control reviews, including EAR, ITAR, Canadian ECL, EIPA, Controlled Goods Program / CGP, and applicable sanctions rules.
- Support export classification and trade-data reviews, including ECCN, Canadian ECL, HS/HTS, country of origin, and end-use/end-user information.
- Assist with export permits, licenses, re-export/retransfer authorizations, advisory opinions, and other government authorization processes where required.
- Support compliance reviews involving controlled technical data, customer drawings, product specifications, PCB/PCBA designs, components, and international shipments.
- Maintain accurate records of screenings, classifications, permits, licenses, customer responses, decisions, and supporting documentation.
- Help develop and maintain export compliance procedures, workflows, training materials, audit files, and internal controls.
- Provide export compliance guidance and training to employees across relevant business functions.
- Support internal reviews, audits, investigations, corrective actions, and periodic risk reporting.
- Liaise with customers, suppliers, brokers, freight forwarders, government agencies, external advisors, and internal teams on export compliance matters.
- Monitor export-control regulatory changes and help assess their impact on Bittele’s business.
- Support import/customs compliance matters as needed, including documentation, tariff classification, origin, valuation, and broker coordination.
Required Experience and Skills
- Minimum 2 years of experience in export compliance, trade compliance, export controls, sanctions screening, restricted-party screening, or related compliance work.
- Working knowledge of Canadian and U.S. export compliance requirements, including EAR, ITAR, Canadian ECL, EIPA, CGP, sanctions, and restricted-party screening.
- Experience with ECCN, Canadian ECL, HS/HTS, country of origin, end-use/end-user review, export documentation, and compliance recordkeeping.
- Experience with electronics, PCB/PCBA, contract manufacturing, technology, aerospace, defense, telecom, semiconductor, medical device, or industrial products is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of Canadian and U.S. import/customs requirements is an asset.
- Strong judgment and ability to identify export compliance risks and recommend practical next steps.
- Strong attention to detail, recordkeeping discipline, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and with cross-functional teams in a deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance, Controlled Goods Program approval, and ITAR-related access approval where applicable.
- Trade compliance, export compliance, or customs certification such as CCS, CTCS, CUSECO, export compliance certification, or similar credential is an asset.
Pay: $70,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
