About the Role

5 Corners Meats is a specialty meat processing facility in Chilliwack operating under the Donald’s Fine Foods family of brands. We process and distribute across British Columbia and Alberta, and we take pride in a production environment that runs on discipline, quality, and a culture where people look out for each other.

We’re looking for a Safety Coordinator who wants to own safety at the plant level — not just push paper. This role puts you on the production floor every day, building real relationships with frontline workers and supervisors, running the JHSC, and making sure our OH&S program isn’t just a binder on a shelf. You’ll report to our enterprise Health & Safety Manager and work closely with the Plant Manager and HR Generalist on site.

What You’ll DoDay-to-Day Safety Operations

  • Conduct routine workplace inspections and document findings with corrective actions and timelines
  • Perform hazard assessments for new tasks, equipment, and process changes; develop or update safe work practices accordingly
  • Ensure all required safety signage, PPE, and equipment safeguards are in place and maintained.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with WHMIS, lockout/tagout, and confined space entry programs.
  • Incident Management
  • Act as first responder for workplace incidents; coordinate initial care and secure the scene
  • Conduct investigations to DFF’s enterprise standard and complete all documentation within defined timelines
  • Submit regulatory reports to WorkSafeBC within legislated deadlines, in coordination with the enterprise Safety Manager
  • Track corrective actions to closure; escalate unresolved items as needed

Training & JHSC

  • Deliver safety orientations for all new hires including temporary and agency workers
  • Facilitate toolbox talks, safety meetings, and refresher training per the enterprise training calendar
  • Co-chair the Joint Health and Safety Committee; schedule and run monthly meetings and coordinate annual workplace inspections

Reporting & Collaboration

  • Provide weekly safety activity updates to the enterprise Safety Manager
  • Partner with the HR Generalist on return-to-work, modified duty, and WCB claim coordination
  • Contribute plant-level data for enterprise safety reporting and trend analysis

What You Bring Required

  • 2+ years of experience in an OH&S or safety-related role in an industrial, manufacturing, or food processing environment
  • Working knowledge of BC OH&S legislation and WorkSafeBC regulatory requirements
  • NCSO, CRSP, or equivalent certification, or actively working toward it — WHMIS and First Aid certifications required
  • Strong written communication; ability to write clear investigation reports and maintain accurate documentation
  • Comfortable working in an active production environment including cold storage, wet floors, and loud machinery

Preferred

  • Experience in food processing, meat processing, or a federally inspected plant environment
  • JHSC certification (or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire)
  • Bilingual in English and Tagalog is a strong asset given our plant workforce

Why 5 Corners Meats

  • Stable, growing company — six production facilities across BC, Alberta, and Saskatchewan
  • Real autonomy at the plant level with enterprise support behind you
  • A leadership team that’s actively investing in its people and safety culture
  • Competitive salary (see above), benefits, and a role with genuine career path into enterprise safety
