Summary:
We’re looking for Casual Medical Sonographers to join our teams at St. Paul's Hospital, and Mount St. Joseph Hospital, to help deliver exceptional, patient-focused ultrasound care!
Reporting to the Supervisor, the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer contributes to exceptional diagnostic imaging services through safe, patient-focused ultrasound practice, including:
- Abdominal, obstetrical, pelvic, peripheral vascular and small parts ultrasound examinations, observing patient safety practices.
- Receiving and completing requisitions, entering relevant data into the diagnostic imaging information system, preparing patients for specific procedures, and conducting examinations utilizing ultrasound and Doppler techniques.
- Participates on committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.
Education:
- Must be a graduate of a recognized training program in Medical Diagnostic Sonography
- Certified with Sonography Canada or the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or be certified with Sonography Canada and have passed the Sonography Canada Skills Assessment (CCSA).
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge of theory and practice for Sonography procedures including abdominal, obstetrical, pelvic, peripheral vascular and small parts.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the aseptic techniques.
- Demonstrated knowledge and practice of safe work procedures with diagnostic sonographic and medical imaging equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to perform sonographic examinations in compliance with departmental standards.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate (orally and in writing) and deal effectively with clients and their families, co-workers, physicians, other health care staff, and staff of external agencies.
- Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
- Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.
- Demonstrated ability in CPR techniques.
- Demonstrated computer skills including the ability to effectively use a computerized client care information system.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

From hospital care to primary and community health solutions, the new St. Paul’s Hospital and health campus will continue to lead innovations in care, research, and teaching. The new St. Paul’s Hospital is expected to open in 2027.
- Competitive pay: $40.83 to $50.94 CAD per hour, depending on experience.

Your Day to Day:
- Prepares patients for ultrasound exams by reviewing requisitions, clinical history, entering patient data, and explaining procedures
- Performs a range of ultrasound examinations using appropriate imaging and Doppler techniques, ensuring proper image labelling and archiving
- Assists radiologists during interventional and biopsy procedures while providing patient support and maintaining aseptic technique
- Reviews images for quality and completeness, prepares documentation, and consults with radiologists as needed
- Coordinates workflow, patient transport, and maintains accurate imaging and hospital records
- Monitors and maintains equipment, performs quality control, supports staff training, participates in research, and follows health and safety requirements
