THE OPPORTUNITY: DISABILITY DETERMINATION ADJUDICATOR – ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY BC (ATBC) – Temporary Position (1 year term until October 2027)

provides assistive technology resources to make learning environments usable for people with disabilities throughout British Columbia. In collaboration with persons with disabilities, post-secondary institutions, community organizations, and our funding partners, ATBC offers a wide range of individualized, centrally coordinated technology services including assessments, assistive equipment, training, and consultation to enable persons with disabilities to achieve their educational goals.

The ATBC Disability Determination Adjudicator determines permanent disability or persistent or prolonged disability eligibility for the federal Canada Study Grant post-secondary student applicants.

This position is currently 100% in-person at the ATBC office located at 108-1750 W 75th Ave, Vancouver.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review the physical or mental health medical documentation, letters, forms, etc. to verify eligibility as either a Permanent Disability (PD) or Persistent or Prolonged Disability (PPD), as defined in the Canada Student Financial Assistance Regulations
  • Receive and respond to queries or updates on application status and/or policy questions related to adjudication of medical documentation.
  • Record all contact/communication with clients and or representatives, actions and decisions in the client’s file to ensure program/decision transparency for public funds and record all actions/decisions
  • Keep up to date and implement any changes in criteria of the Ministry policies and/or program procedures steps

  • Assistive Technology BC case management colleagues, office support, technical and management staff
  • Post-secondary Institution Accessibility Coordinators
  • Student Aid BC Officers, Policy Analysists, other Ministry personnel as relevant

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related area of health science, public administration, social science, education or a related diploma required
  • Minimum of 4 years of related experience in the community health, education or service fields making complex adjudicative decisions
  • Experience in reading and interpreting psychological or psychoeducational reports an asset

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Significant knowledge of physical or mental impairments and their impact on activities of daily living in school or workplace environments
  • Self-motivated individual who possesses excellent decision-making and strong leadership skills
  • Attention to detail and analytical thinking are key in assessing medical documentation and condensing and summarizing complex medical and psychiatric information in a concise written format
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Office Suite applications

COMPENSATION

The compensation package will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. The salary range for this position is $85,879 to $101,034 and a competitive benefits package including Municipal Pension Plan, Deferred Savings plan, Extended Health, Dental, Group Life, Long Term Disability, and 4 weeks of paid time off (pro-rated from start date).
