Role Overview

We are seeking a Fumigator (Marine / Ship Operations) to join our Vancouver-based team.

This full-time, on-site role focuses on performing fumigation of vessels, cargo holds, containers, and port-side storage structures, ensuring safe and compliant pest control treatments. The position supports both commodity and structural fumigation activities in marine and terminal environments.

You'll work closely with vessel crews, terminal operators, and service teams to deliver high-quality fumigation services across port operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform fumigation treatments on ships, cargo holds, containers, and marine storage facilities
  • Prepare vessels and cargo for fumigation, including sealing and gas distribution setup
  • Apply fumigants in accordance with Canadian regulations, product labels, and SOPs
  • Monitor gas concentrations and exposure periods using detection equipment
  • Conduct aeration and confirm safe re-entry conditions
  • Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC, Transport Canada, and regulatory safety requirements
  • Set up hazard controls, restricted zones, and safety signage onboard and dockside
  • Complete treatment records, gas readings, and fumigation certification documentation
  • Coordinate with captains, crew, port authorities, and terminal staff

Qualifications

  • Experience in fumigation, pest control, or stored product protection
  • Strong understanding of fumigation safety practices and regulatory compliance
  • Ability to work in marine, confined space, and industrial environments
  • High attention to detail and ability to monitor treatment processes accurately
  • Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability in dynamic port settings
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills

Licensing & Requirements

  • Valid BC Pesticide Applicator Licence (Structural and/or Industrial/Commodity categories), or willingness to obtain
  • Fumigation certification or relevant training in phosphine or similar fumigants
  • Valid driver's licence and ability to travel locally between port sites
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings or evenings based on vessel schedules

Assets

  • Experience with ship/vessel fumigation or port operations
  • Familiarity with grain, bulk commodities, or export cargo fumigation
  • Confined space training or marine safety certifications
  • Experience working with international crews and port logistics
