JOB OPPORTUNITY – Emergency Response Team Member / Fire Fighter 'MICA DAM'

We are excited to offer you the opportunity to submit yourself for consideration to join our team at Mica Dam as an Emergency Response Team (ERT) Member. This role is ideal for individuals with a passion for firefighting and emergency response who are looking to grow in a supportive, close-knit team.

As an ERT Member, you will be working as a firefighter out of our fire hall in Mica Creek, covering the town of Mica Creek and the Mica Dam. Our team handles a wide range of responsibilities, including rope, highway, and confined space rescue, as well as structural, industrial, and wildland firefighting, OFA3 coverage, and HAZMAT operations. Our team operates on a 2-week-on, 2-week-off schedule, providing continuous coverage at the dam and surrounding areas.

Coverage while deployed at Mica Dam is 24/7 on-call, with regularly scheduled days running from 0630-1630, 7 days per week.

We currently have one opening available in, with the potential for additional positions to follow. Many of our casual team members have transitioned to full-time roles over the past five years, as others have moved on to career positions in municipal fire halls. If you perform well during orientation but are not selected for the opening, we will offer you a casual position and provide you with as many hours as possible through leave and illness coverage, preparing you for a full-time opportunity when it becomes available.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· NFPA 1001 Level 2 (Proboard/IFSAC seal required)

· NFPA Hazmat Operations (Proboard/IFSAC seal required)

· Rope Rescue Operations (Technician preferred, seal not required)

· Confined Space Rescue Operations (Technician preferred, seal not required)

· OFA Level 1 with Transportation Endorsement (at a minimum, the expectation is that this is upgraded to OFA3 either before or shortly after employment).

· ICS 100

· Fall Protection

· Class 5 Driver’s license with Air Brake Endorsement (provide new abstract)

· Preference given to individuals with (4) years of experience in a municipal, volunteer, or full-service Industrial fire hall.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Provide rescue and recovery for persons in dangerous situation 

· Provide first aid support as needed 

· Perform emergency evacuation and/or carry out rescue plan when required

· Assist in assessing potential hazards 

· Inspect and perform preventative maintenance on all rescue equipment 

· Maintain an active role in ensuring proper work safety for their self and others in the surrounding area through safety meetings and shared vigilance; other duties as assigned 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

You’ll also have a private room provided at no cost for the duration of your shifts.

- Facilities: We offer several recreational facilities to help you unwind and stay active after hours, including multiple gyms, a pool, hot tub, sauna, golf simulator and even an 8 hole golf course.

Hourly Rate: $40.00 - $42.50, Travel Compensation: $0.50 per kilometer from your residence to the dam site.

Pay: $42.50 per hour
