Job Overview

Capella Centre Alberta is seeking a Crisis Intervention Worker – Night Shift to provide front-line support to women, children, and families accessing our women’s shelter, support line, and family violence services.

The Crisis Intervention Worker provides crisis intervention, emotional support, safety planning, referrals, advocacy, intake and exit support, documentation, and daily shelter support.

This position requires professionalism, sound judgment, emotional regulation, confidentiality, teamwork, reliability, and clear professional boundaries in a high-stress residential shelter environment.

Position Details

  • Position: Crisis Intervention Worker – Night Shift
  • Hours: 40 hours per week, 4 x 10-hour shifts
  • Shift: 10:00 p.m. – 8:00 a.m.
  • Wage: $28.44 to $30.99 per hour(These rates include applicable shift differential.)

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide crisis intervention, emotional support, information, referrals, advocacy, and practical assistance.
  • Support women, children, and families using a trauma-informed, non-judgmental, and client-centred approach.
  • Complete intake, orientation, safety planning, documentation, and exit-related support.
  • Respond to crisis situations, safety concerns, conflict, and emergencies.
  • Provide support through the shelter support line and assist callers with safety planning, information, and referrals.
  • Support daily shelter operations, including phone coverage, residential support, meal preparation, cleaning, laundry, room preparation, and shift handover.
  • Monitor the safety, cleanliness, and security of the facility.
  • Maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries, and accurate documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with co-workers, supervisors, community agencies, and service providers.

Qualifications

  • Relevant education in social work, human services, psychology, counselling, child and youth care, addictions, community support, or a related field is preferred.
  • Grade 12 with relevant experience may be considered.
  • Experience working with family violence, trauma, crisis, mental health concerns, addictions, or complex social barriers is an asset.
  • Strong communication, documentation, computer, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and objective in a high-stress shelter environment.
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and ability to meet scheduled shift commitments.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to complete additional job-related training as required.

Required Checks and Certificates

  • Criminal Record Check required.
  • Children’s Services Intervention Check required.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR Certificate required or willingness to obtain.
  • Availability for shift work, including nights, weekends, holidays, and possible on-call coverage.

Preferred Assets

  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training.
  • Experience working in a residential program or shelter environment.
  • Knowledge of family violence, trauma-informed practice, and safety planning.
  • Experience working with diverse and multicultural communities.
  • Strong professional boundaries and understanding of confidentiality in a human services setting.
