About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Micro Laboratory Technician to join our aseptic food processing facility. The successful candidate will support routine and specialized microbiological testing to ensure product safety, regulatory compliance, and the highest standards of quality. This role involves working in both a lab environment and controlled aseptic areas, following strict safety and sanitation guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

Microbiological Testing & Analysis

  • Perform routine microbiological analyses of raw materials, in-process samples, environmental samples, and finished food products (e.g., Aerobic Colony Count, Yeast/Mold, Coliforms/Ecoli)
  • Prepare, plate, incubate, and interpret results from a variety of media and test methods (Neogen Petrifilm, Quick Swabs, Pre-poured agar plates).
  • Conduct aseptic testing to evaluate sterility, and process control performance (raw material, finished goods and environmental monitoring samples).
  • Sample collection of environmental monitoring sites and packaging samples for third-party laboratory testing, completion of CoC’s and report review

Aseptic & Laboratory Operations

  • Maintain aseptic technique for sample handling and equipment operation.
  • Monitor, Maintain and document environmental conditions (Sanitation, temperature monitoring)
  • Operate basic laboratory instruments (manual and electronic micropipettors, incubators, pH meters)

Documentation & Compliance

  • Accurately record data and results in appropriate reports and send out finished product micro reports
  • Follow Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and applicable FSMA, HACCP, and FDA/USDA regulations.
  • Report out-of-specification (OOS) results and participate in investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Assist with microbial trend analysis and quality metric reporting.
  • Support validation/verification of sanitation programs, aseptic processes, and environmental monitoring plans.
  • Participate in internal audits, proficiency testing, and lab method verifications as needed.

Qualifications

Required:

  • College Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Biology, or related field.
  • 1–2 years of laboratory experience (academic or industry), preferably in microbiology or food testing.
  • Understanding of aseptic technique and microbiological methods.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to follow written procedures.

Preferred:

  • Experience in an aseptic processing environment (food, beverage, or pharmaceutical).
  • Familiarity with GMP, HACCP, environmental monitoring.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and standard microbiology reference methods.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to work in controlled cleanroom or aseptic processing environments.
  • Ability to lift up to 25–40 lbs (media, sample cases, equipment).
  • Exposure to cold/hot environments, biological materials, and sanitizing chemicals.
