Full job description

We are looking for a highly motivated and customer service-oriented individual who can work independently to create an exceptional front desk experience for our hotel guests. Candidates must be available for all shifts, including overnight, weekends, and holidays. This is a part-time position with the opportunity to transition into full-time employment. Candidate must be living in Guelph or Fergus, or willing to relocate to Fergus.

Responsibilities

  • Register arriving guests and assign rooms
  • Process group arrivals and departures
  • Reserve, cancel, and modify room reservations
  • Answer and direct telephone calls using a multi-line switchboard
  • Provide information on hotel facilities, services, and local points of interest
  • Investigate and resolve guest complaints and concerns professionally
  • Perform night audit duties, including balancing daily transactions and reports
  • Process guest payments and maintain accurate records
  • Handle guest departures, calculate charges, and receive payments
  • Balance cash and complete cash reports and related forms
  • Set up and clean the breakfast buffet daily
  • Follow hotel emergency and safety procedures
  • Ensure the lobby and front desk area remain clean and organized
  • Maintain security and monitor hotel activity during overnight hours
  • Perform other duties assigned by management

Minimum Qualifications & Skills

  • Previous front desk or customer service experience preferred
  • Hospitality experience is considered an asset
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn hotel management systems
  • Knowledge of Visual Matrix PMS is preferred
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently, especially during overnight shifts
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy with numbers
  • Must be willing to work overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays

Working Conditions

  • Some heavy lifting required
  • Standing for extended periods of time
  • Use of cleaning chemicals
  • High level of attentiveness to guest needs and requests
  • Daily setup and cleanup of breakfast buffet
  • Occasional handling of guest and staff inquiries
  • Ability to work early morning, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts with minimal supervision
  • Must maintain a professional appearance and wear the prescribed uniform and name tag at all times
