Full job description

Job Title: Biogas Facility Operator

Location: Huron County, ON (Crediton/Zurich )

Position Type: Full-Time

Start Date: August / Early September (1-month training overlap)

About the Role We are seeking a reliable, mechanically inclined Biogas Facility Operator to manage the daily operations of our anaerobic digester and soybean processing equipment. Our biogas plant is integrated into our larger agricultural enterprise, running alongside our sow farrow-to-finish operation, cash cropping, feed mill and broiler chickens.

Our current operator, Dave, is retiring this October. To ensure a smooth handover and operational continuity, the successful candidate will spend at least one full month working side-by-side with him to learn the specific mechanics, daily rhythms, and troubleshooting procedures of this facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily Monitoring & Operation: Oversee the daily function of the anaerobic digester, gas handling systems, and generator sets to ensure optimal performance and uptime.
  • Feedstock Management: Coordinate the intake and mixing of feedstocks, including manure, off farm waste and other organic inputs.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine mechanical and basic electrical maintenance on pumps, agitators, valves, and engines.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve mechanical or system faults quickly to minimize downtime.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate logs of system performance, feedstock inputs, gas output, and maintenance activities for compliance and operational tracking.
  • Site Integration: Work seamlessly with the farm team.

Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience working with industrial or agricultural machinery (pumps, motors, heavy equipment).
  • Prior experience in biogas, wastewater treatment, or industrial plant operations is a strong asset, but we are willing to train the right candidate with a solid mechanical background.
  • Familiarity with agricultural environments and comfortable working around livestock operations.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently after the initial training period.
  • Basic understanding of plumbing, electrical systems, and SCADA/control interfaces.
