Full job description
Interprovincial Cooperative Limited (IPCO), a respected leader in the Agricultural industry, is currently recruiting a Laboratory Technician to join our team. IPCO offers a competitive wage, benefits and pension package. This position may be subject to seasonal layoffs. Qualifying applicants must be able to work all three shifts. Shift placement will be determined based on operational requirements.
What you’ll do:
Laboratory Technicians, under the guidance of Chemists and Quality Manager, are responsible for testing quality of all formulated and packaged products on site to meet required specification. Duties include but are not limited to: running assay analysis by GC and HPLC, performing density, pH and percent water measurements; preparing analytical standards and control samples; perform scheduled balance and pH verifications/calibrations; legibly enter required entries into production documents; assist in the implementation of the Contamination Prevention program, including guiding clean out procedures and analysis of residual impurities via HPLC, GC and LC-MS; collect and analyses data for environment (water and air) samples as required to meet regulative requirements; maintain compliance with the IPCO Safety Program and meeting specified goals and objectives, while working as a team with all staff; Act as a resource to production staff regarding process/product related inquiries; Respond quickly, effectively and professionally to unexpected situations regarding non-conforming product and batch adjustments; Contribute to maintaining lab supply inventories and lab cleanliness; Contribute to testing developmental formulations in conjunction with the Chemists; Contribute to the value added QC analysis services provided to Toll companies; and performing all other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work under pressure and in high-demand situations.
- Ability to lift up to 25kg floor to waist and 25kg waist to shoulders.
- Ability to perform repetitive activities.
- Ability to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time and standing up to the entire shift.
- Ability to move about the work site to perform various job duties.
- Ability to wear half face and full-face respirator.
Qualifications:
- Shift placement is to be determined based on operational requirements and will be one of the following shifts: Day shift 7am-3:30pm, Evening shift 3pm-11:30pm and Night shift 11pm – 7:30am. (During the current production season placement will be on evening or night shift.)
- Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) Degree or analogous Diploma/Certificate required.
- Minimum of 2 years laboratory experience with using HPLC/GC analytical testing equipment.
- Knowledge of Open-Lab/Chemstation Chromatography software is considered an asset.
- Ability to develop analytical methods for HPLC and GC considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of basic laboratory techniques and competent computer skills.
- Familiarity with aspect of Statistical Analysis and Quality Assurance Principals.
- Previous experience with gas and/or liquid chromatography is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of quality control and inventory control processed is preferred.
- Strong work ethic and organizational skills.
- Strong mathematical skills, problem solving, attention to detail.
- Understand imperial and metric system.
- Understanding of WHMIS and SDSs.
- Excellent English communication skills both written and verbal.
- Ability to follow SOPs.
- Solid work references, punctual/dependable with reliable transportation.
- Ability to handle changing priorities with a sense of urgency.
- Ability to work in a team environment, a can-do attitude and ability to multi-task.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 is considered an asset.
- Operational Excellence (Lean Manufacturing) knowledge is preferred and considered a valuable asset.
- Experience writing SOPs considered an asset.
- Previous work in an industrial chemical manufacturing environment considered an asset.
