Your new role
The Vice President of Engineering, Delivery is a senior technology leader within the CNN Technology organization, responsible for ensuring predictable, high‑quality delivery across a portfolio of mission‑critical engineering functions. This VP‑level role reports directly to the CNN Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and is a key member of the senior technology leadership team.
This leader will own and evolve CNN’s delivery operating model, balancing speed, quality, reliability, and scale in a fast‑paced, always‑on news environment. The role requires deep experience leading engineering leaders, strong operational rigor, and the ability to partner closely with product, editorial, and business stakeholders to translate strategy into execution.
This position is based in Ottawa and plays a critical role in building and scaling CNN’s engineering leadership presence in the region. As the most senior exec, this leader would provide on-the-ground leadership to on-site engineers that may be outside of their reporting chain. They would be expected to engage with the broader engineering community, representing CNN and WBD to generate interest in the work we do and identify ways to give back.
About the team
CNN Technology is a growing, collaborative organization focused on building the platforms and systems that power CNN’s global journalism. Our mission is to make CNN essential every day by delivering reliable, high‑quality technology that supports breaking news, live events, and on‑demand experiences for audiences around the world.
The Engineering Delivery organization spans frontline editorial support, site reliability engineering, and technical program management. Together, these teams ensure that CNN’s products and platforms are resilient, scalable, and delivered with excellence, even under the most demanding conditions.
Your role accountabilities
- Lead the engineering delivery strategy across CNN Technology, ensuring alignment between the CTO’s strategic priorities and day‑to‑day execution.
- Own end‑to‑end delivery outcomes across Editorial Support, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and Technical Program Management (TPM).
- Ensure frontline Editorial Support teams provide reliable, responsive technical support for newsroom and editorial staff working in CNN systems.
- Lead SRE teams responsible for production environments, operational excellence, incident management, reliability, and developer experience.
- Oversee Technical Program Management teams accountable for the coordinated delivery of complex products and features across engineering.
- Partner closely with central Test Engineering and QA teams to deliver quality at scale through strong testing strategies, automation, and release readiness.
- Establish and mature delivery frameworks, metrics, and governance to improve predictability, transparency, and accountability.
- Drive a culture of operational excellence, including production readiness, post‑incident learning, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Editorial, Design, Data, and Commercial leaders to align delivery plans with business and journalistic goals.
- Communicate delivery status, risks, and trade‑offs clearly to executive stakeholders using data‑driven insights.
- Attract, develop, and retain senior engineering leaders, fostering a diverse, inclusive, and high‑performing organization.
Qualifications & Experience
- Extensive experience leading large, complex engineering organizations with multiple senior leaders.
- Proven track record of owning end‑to‑end delivery for high‑impact, business‑critical technology initiatives.
- Strong background in engineering delivery, operational excellence, and scaling teams in fast‑paced environments.
- Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with product, editorial, and business stakeholders in highly matrixed organizations.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to distill complex technical and operational topics for executive audiences.
- Experience leading geographically distributed teams and managing significant organizational change.
- Experience with Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, and modern cloud‑native operating models.
- Leads by example, building trust through every interaction.
Bonus Experience
- Experience in digital media, news, streaming, or live content platforms.
- Familiarity with live and on‑demand video workflows and media supply chains.
- Exposure to large‑scale technical program management or portfolio delivery functions.
- Comfort representing technology delivery with senior executives and external partners.
