Field Service Power Generation Technician

T&T Power Group is a Canadian power generation, distribution, and automation sales and service company. Our customers rely on us to keep critical power systems operating safely and reliably across industrial, commercial, and institutional environments.

We are currently seeking an experienced Field Service Power Generation Technician to join our team. This is a hands-on field position for a Red Seal Heavy Equipment / Heavy Duty Mechanic with strong electrical diagnostic capabilities or dual ticketing who is comfortable troubleshooting complex generator systems in the field.

The successful candidate will perform advanced electrical troubleshooting, diagnostics, planned maintenance, testing, commissioning support, and mechanical repairs on prime, continuous, and emergency standby power generation systems.

What You’ll Do

  • Troubleshoot, test, diagnose, and repair generator control systems, digital engine management systems, Automatic Voltage Regulators (AVRs), excitation circuits, sensors, governors, and Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS).
  • Diagnose AC/DC electrical systems, HV/LV power distribution, alternator ends, rotating rectifiers, control circuits, and associated electrical components.
  • Troubleshoot digital master control panels, ATS systems, paralleling switchgear, and safety shutdown systems.
  • Perform semi-annual and annual Planned Equipment Maintenance (PEM).
  • Conduct full-load testing using building loads or portable resistive/reactive load banks.
  • Perform CSA 282 inspections and testing for emergency electrical power supply systems.
  • Complete planned engine maintenance, fluid analysis, belt and hose replacement, and minor-to-major mechanical repairs.
  • Service diesel and natural gas engines, including equipment from Cummins, CAT, Perkins, Volvo Penta, Deutz, Mitsubishi, and other major manufacturers.
  • Use electronic diagnostic platforms such as Cummins INSITE, CAT ET, Volvo Tech Tool, DSE/ComAp/Deep Sea software, and other OEM diagnostic systems.
  • Assist with field commissioning, wiring verification, control parameter adjustments, start-up, and troubleshooting of multi-megawatt power generation systems.
  • Respond to customer sites for emergency service calls and participate in rotational on-call coverage.
  • Travel to customer locations, including remote sites, as required.
  • Complete service worksheets, load-bank logs, timesheets, inspection documentation, and safety reports accurately and on time.
  • Communicate technical findings, recommendations, and repair requirements clearly to customers and internal teams.
  • Work closely with Parts, Engineering, Dispatch, Sales, OEM technical support, and other Field Service team members.
  • Follow all company Health & Safety, PPE, Arc Flash, environmental, and site-specific requirements.

What You Bring

  • Red Seal Heavy Equipment / Heavy Duty Mechanic certification is required.
  • Strong electrical diagnostic capabilities or dual ticketing.
  • Strong knowledge of AC/DC power distribution and HV/LV electrical systems.
  • Hands-on knowledge of generator alternator ends, rotating rectifiers, AVRs, excitation systems, and electrical controls.
  • Experience troubleshooting ATS systems, digital generator controls, paralleling switchgear, and safety shutdown circuits.
  • Strong diesel and/or natural gas engine diagnostic and repair experience.
  • Experience with generator load-bank testing and planned maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of CSA 282 requirements.
  • Experience using electronic engine and generator diagnostic software.
  • Valid Driver’s Licence with a clean driving record.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to customer sites and participate in rotational on-call coverage.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs and work within generator enclosures, electrical rooms, and industrial equipment spaces.

Additional Assets

  • ASTTBC / ASTT certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Experience with diesel, natural gas, and propane fuel systems.
  • First Aid, Fall Protection, Confined Space, Arc Flash, or other relevant safety certifications.
  • Experience commissioning and troubleshooting large or multi-megawatt generator systems

Pay: $42.00-$52.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
