A Kitchen Built on Craft, Not Shortcuts

This is a kitchen for people who care about precision, discipline, and respect for Japanese food culture. We are a chef-led Japanese (Nihon-Poi) restaurant focused on sushi, washoku, and traditional technique. Our kitchen is tight, focused, and professional. We work clean, we move with purpose, and we hold each other to high standards. About the Role

Our restaurant operates across in-house dining, take-out service, and a busy catering program, so the ability to stay organized and work well under pressure is essential.

This role is ideal for someone who wants to grow their kitchen skills, contribute to a respectful and professional work environment, and learn authentic Japanese cooking techniques.

  • Monitor station inventory levels and communicate ordering needs
  • Work collaboratively with kitchen team and front-of-house staff
  • Support prep work, receiving deliveries and basic kitchen duties as required

Performance Expectations

  • Consistency: Follow recipes and plating standards with minimal supervision
  • Speed & Efficiency: Maintain strong ticket times during peak service
  • Food Safety: Zero critical food safety violations
  • Waste Reduction: Minimize food waste through proper prep and storage
  • Teamwork: Positive communication and reliability in shift coverage
  • Cleanliness: Maintain inspection-ready workstations
  • Catering Accuracy: Support accurate preparation and packaging of catering orders

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a restaurant kitchen preferred
  • Basic knife skills and understanding of kitchen operations
  • Ability to follow direction and work as part of a team
  • Ontario Food Handler Certification required
  • Conversational English skills
  • Japanese cuisine experience is an asset but not required

What We Value

  • Strong work ethic and reliability
  • Respectful relationships with colleagues
  • Pride in cleanliness, personal presentation and food quality
  • Willingness to learn and improve
  • Team-first attitude and positive energy
