Position Purpose

The Residential Casual Support Worker (On-Call) supports residents of Grace Mansion in their personal development, life skills, and overall well-being within a transitional housing environment. The role focuses on providing supervision, administrative support, and compassionate assistance to help residents work toward stability, independence, and their full potential, while upholding The Salvation Army’s Mission, Values, and policies.

Key Responsibilities

Resident Support & Supervision

  • Supervise and monitor resident activity during assigned shifts

  • Respond to resident inquiries in accordance with Centre policies and procedures

  • Support residents during physical, emotional, or mental health crises

  • Provide initial response to emergencies (e.g., fire alarms, critical incidents)

  • Help clients connect to supports in the community and with meeting personal goals

  • Complete wellness and building safety checks.

Administrative & Intake Support

  • Answer phones and direct inquiries appropriately

  • Admit visitors according to established guidelines

  • Assist with resident intake, departures, applications, and waitlist updates

  • Maintain accurate files, records, and statistics

  • Receive resident rent and secure funds according to written protocols, when required.

Community & Resource Coordination

  • Research and maintain knowledge of issues impacting residents

  • Support connections with Salvation Army programs, government services, and community agencies

  • Assist with coordination of resources to support resident stability and growth.

Professional Conduct & Team Collaboration

  • Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times

  • Work collaboratively with Program Manager, Case Workers, Chaplain, and support staff

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Manager.

Education & Experience

Education & Certifications

  • High school diploma required

  • Post-secondary education in a related field is an asset

  • First Aid / CPR certification

  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (or willingness to be trained)

  • Addictions and/or Mental Health training (or willingness to be trained)

  • WHMIS

  • FOODSAFE Level 1 (or willingness to be trained).

Experience

  • Minimum 10 months’ experience in a residential or supportive housing setting

  • Working knowledge of Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Skills & Capabilities

  • Strong organization, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to de-escalate individuals in stressful situations
  • High standards of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment
  • Criminal Record Review Act clearance to work with vulnerable adults

Compensation Statement

The target hiring range for this position is $22.92 to $28.64 with a maximum of $34.37.

Compensation:

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
