Senior Structural Engineer (Bridges)

We are looking for a part-time, contract Senior Structural Engineer specializing in bridge design and engineering, to join our team. RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead structural analysis and design of rail bridge structures (steel, concrete, and composite), ensuring compliance with AREMA, CHBDC/AASHTO, and client standards
  • Serve as technical lead on rail infrastructure projects, overseeing planning, calculations, detailing, and design deliverables across project phases
  • Perform complex structural evaluations including load rating, fatigue analysis, seismic assessment, and rehabilitation design for existing rail bridges
  • Develop and review engineering deliverables (drawings, specifications, reports, and cost estimates) to support design, procurement, and construction
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (track, geotechnical, civil, and construction) to deliver integrated rail corridor solutions
  • Mentor and supervise junior engineers, providing technical guidance and fostering development of bridge engineering capabilities
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Structural preferred); Master’s degree considered an asset
  • Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng. in Canada or PE in the U.S.); Structural Engineer (SE) designation is an asset
  • Typically 10+ years of progressive experience in bridge design, with a strong focus on rail or transit structures
  • Demonstrated expertise in structural analysis and bridge design software (e.g., CSI Bridge, SAP2000, MIDAS, LARSA)
  • Strong working knowledge of rail-specific standards (AREMA), and familiarity with highway bridge codes (AASHTO, CHBDC)
  • Experience with Class I railways (CN/CPKC) and Canadian regulatory environment
  • Familiarity with heavy haul, freight loading, and clearance constraints
  • Experience delivering both new bridge construction and rehabilitation/asset management projects across rail networks
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with ability to operate as a technical authority within multidisciplinary teams
