Job summary

We are seeking an Architectural Technologist – Interior Design with strong Revit and AutoCAD skills to support our team in preparing technical drawings and managing commercial building permit applications.
This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys translating commercial interior design concepts into accurate construction documentation and coordinating directly with City staff on permits and approvals.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed commercial interior drawings in Revit and AutoCAD, including floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, interior elevations, sections, details, millwork, and schedules.
  • Develop complete drawing sets for commercial tenant fit‑outs and renovations, from design development through permit and construction documentation.
  • Coordinate and assemble commercial building permit application packages (interior renovations, tenant improvements, change of use where applicable).
  • Submit permit applications to the City of Toronto and other municipalities as required, track status, and respond promptly to comments and deficiency notices.
  • Review applicable zoning bylaws, Ontario Building Code requirements, and municipal standards for commercial interiors (e.g., exits, fire separations, barrier‑free design).
  • Revise drawings and documentation based on City feedback, consultant input (e.g., structural, mechanical, electrical), and internal design changes.
  • Maintain organized digital project files, drawing logs, and permit documentation to ensure all deliverables remain current and consistent.
  • Collaborate closely with interior designers, project managers, and contractors to ensure technical accuracy, constructability, and alignment with design intent.mncjobz
  • Conduct occasional site visits to measure and document existing commercial spaces and verify as‑built conditions.
  • Contribute to improving office standards, Revit/AutoCAD templates, and documentation workflows for commercial interiors.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Architectural Technology, Building/Interior Design Technology, or a closely related field.
  • Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD, with experience producing full drawing sets for commercial tenant fit‑outs and interior renovations.
  • Approximately 3–7 years of relevant experience in an architectural, interior design, or design‑build firm, focused on commercial interiors.
  • Solid understanding of commercial building construction, interior assemblies, and typical office/retail/hospitality detailing.
  • Familiarity with Ontario Building Code and commercial permit processes; direct City of Toronto experience is a strong asset.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent drafting standards, and commitment to accuracy and coordination.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with designers, consultants, landlords, and municipal staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple commercial projects and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment and work both independently and within a collaborative team.

Preferred assets

  • Direct experience with office fit‑outs, retail, clinics, restaurants, or other commercial tenant improvements.
  • Experience reviewing lease plans, base building drawings, and landlord requirements.
  • Coordination experience with structural, mechanical, and electrical consultants on commercial projects.
  • Familiarity with additional design/visualization tools (e.g., SketchUp, Enscape, Adobe Creative Suite) is an asset but not required.
