Full job description

The St. Leonard’s Society of Hamilton is a Therapeutic Community based program that offers residential support to male individuals who are being released from federal incarceration. SLSH operates two residential programs- The Robert Street House of transition and the Clinton House Sober House. We serve our community by promoting the personal growth and development of males who have been involved in the criminal justice system and, or those at risk of offending, by the provision of programs and services that positively impact on their transition to becoming integrated members of society. Residential Counsellor
Job Description

1. Job Identification

Position: RESIDENTIAL COUNSELLOR- Weekends and Afternoons

Reporting To: Program Manager.

Qualifications: The desirable qualifications for this non-management position are a Community College Diploma or University Degree in Law & Security, Corrections or Social Work. Experience in working with those who have Addictions and Mental Health diagnoses is an asset.

Must be able to pass the Government of Canada Enhanced Reliability Screening.

Hours of Work: Weekend, Afternoons, Day Shift, Statutory Holidays and vacation coverage. Must be available to work weekends and Afternoon shifts.

2. Job Summary

Front line responsibilities for the day-to-day functioning and security of the residence as outlined in the staff Policy and Procedural manual, enforcement of House Rules and Expectations, and for the well-being and appropriate conduct of all residents and guests.

3. Job Duties

· Maintains a high standard of cleanliness and safety in the facility.

· Maintains an accurate record of all events, which occur during the shift.

· Assists residents in all crisis or problem situations, and ensures a record of the incident is documented in the client’s casenotes.

· Complete regular checks of the facility, as well as room checks ensuring resident accountability. Document the same in the Duty Log

· Maintain a position of leadership and control

· Ensure that adequate security is maintained to safeguard against theft.

· Familiarization with emergency evacuation and fire safety procedures.

· Ensure that adequate food and cleaning supplies are made available each day.

· Respond to all inquiries made to the facility during non-office hours in accordance with agency policy, ensuring that proper courtesy and confidentiality is maintained.

· Complete administrative duties as required.

· Familiarize him/herself with all agency Policies and Procedures.

· Familiarize him/herself with the agency House Expectations

· Completion of client casenote entries.

· Conducts client Intake and orientation.

· Issuing client medication.

· Administering client breathalyzer testing.

· Copying paystubs and faxing them as required.

· Faxing prescriptions as required.

· Faxing resident passes as required.

· Completing Special Reports as required.

· Participating in House and Staff meetings as required.

· Ensure that confidentiality of the client is maintained at all times.

· Ensure any maintenance or safety issues are identified and appropriate action is taken to rectify them.

· Attend staff training seminars.

· Liaise with Corrections Canada (CSC), and the Community Corrections Liaison Officer (Hamilton Police rep).

· Complete all assigned duties as a member of the Case Management Team with a common interest in the client's progress.

· Ensure that any violations of Special Conditions are immediately reported to the appropriate authority.

· Other duties as assigned.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $21.35-$24.35 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 34 per week
