Position Summary
Are you interested in an opportunity to grow professionally within a positive and progressive culture? Northern Health is seeking a Lead, Health & Safety Management System (HSMS) to join our Workplace Health & Safety department.
Reporting to the Regional Manager—Health, Safety and Prevention Program Governance, the Lead, HSMS is responsible for aligning prevention strategies and program development with Health and Safety Management System principles, with a focus on compliance with BC legislation and applicable Canadian Safety Association (CSA) standards. This position is responsible to promote, and where feasible, oversee integration of core health and safety program elements and systems into Northern Health business/operational systems, in order to advance NH’s strategic plan through strengthening the internal responsibility system and safety culture. The Lead will have key responsibility of WorkSafeBC high risk strategy planning, coordination with senior leaders and order response. The incumbent will also be required to develop relationships with colleagues in private and public sector organizations to monitor workplace health trends and developments and fosters the sharing of best practices.
Starting salary will be approximately from $90,770 to $113,462 and will be based on education, training, experience, and salaries of similar positions.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree, ideally in a Health and/or Occupational Health and Safety related discipline, or a recognized equivalent e.g. Kinesiology, Nursing, Biomechanics, Occupational Hygiene or degree and
- diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, or other related discipline; and
- Five (5) to seven (7) years recent related experience in Occupational Health and Safety in a
- healthcare environment, with a minimum of two (2) years in project management or healthcare leadership role.
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Professional accreditation (CRSP, CSP, CIH, ROH, ASA) or ability to attain within six months.
Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data/results and processes to identify potential health, safety and wellness concerns and conduct appropriate analyses.
- Ability to promote and develop opportunities for research and evaluation to ensure evidence based best practices in relation to employee and workplace health and safety.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and make decisions for improvements, projects and change involving multiple stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to provide a customer-focused approach to service delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret, evaluate, and apply regulations, policies and procedures to a variety of work situations with knowledge of the Worker’s Compensation Act (WCA) and OHS Regulations, and other applicable legislation.
- Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation and principles of management, Joint Health & Safety Committees, conflict management and resolution, system needs analysis and organizational assessment.
- Ability to use tact and discretion in dealing with health care providers and employees.
- Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook), and patient / employee information systems.
- Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to organize and prioritize work and balance multiple activities concurrently.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
