Role Overview
As a Process Engineer, you will play a key role in the development of the resource through learning about the kerogen oil development using our proprietary technology. Kerogen oil is an abundant resource that is currently in commercial operation in Europe, South America and China and it is now evolving to being commercially competitive with other forms of energy.
Your role will be to work closely with our technology developers and assist the team in the implementation of the technology and balance of plant to be implemented in a demonstration plant to be built in the next few years. As part of a dynamic and fast paced engineering team, and reporting to the VP of Engineering, you will learn, participate and then lead part of the plant design. You will be part of a dynamic team focused on design optimization, and project execution.
The engineering team composed of very senior staff is focused not only on the project, but also on knowledge transfer and ensuring that the next generation of leaders will be fully ready for handover when the team fades into retirement.
For a short period of time, expected to be less than two years, the individual will also be required to support the plant operation on a rotational basis to learn the operational challenges which will then be used to improve the commercial plant design.
Desired skills for the candidate:
- Strong engineering design skills (PFD and P&ID development)
- HAZOP experience
- Project execution experience as a sub-lead or lead
- Clean understanding of the stage gate process
- A team player able to work cooperatively in a multidisciplinary environment and with multiple engineering companies.
- Experience with project execution in an engineering company or with an operator that has worked closely with a large engineering company is necessary.
- P.Eng status with APEGA or eligible
- Ability to travel for business trips
- Ability to work on a rotational basis in Saskatchewan for a period of <2 years during the demonstration plant operation
- Proven experience in providing technical support and troubleshooting expertise to resolve process-related issues and optimize performance.
- Proven experience in technical report preparation and/ or presentation to communicated process design changes and recommendations.
This position is based in Calgary, Alberta
Qualifications

- Strong understanding industry standards (ASME, API, NFPA, etc).
- Knowledge of process safety management principles, including hazard analysis and risk assessment methodologies.

- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues and develop innovative solutions.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement.
We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those individuals selected for an interview will be contacted. We welcome applications from all qualified individuals. We are committed to building a team that will make a positive contribution to the communities where we live and work.
