About the Bioscience Laboratory Specialist Position:
Reporting to the Associate Dean, the Bioscience Laboratory Specialist plays a key role in delivering anatomy and physiology education across multiple programs within the Faculty of Health & Life Sciences.
This is a balanced educational and technical role that includes approximately 24–26 hours per week of direct student engagement through the facilitation of anatomy and physiology laboratories, tutorials, review sessions, and practical assessments. The remainder of the role focuses on cadaver dissection and prosection, anatomical specimen preparation and preservation, laboratory operations, scheduling, inventory management, and maintaining a safe, high-quality learning environment.
Working collaboratively with faculty, the Specialist prepares and facilitates laboratory learning experiences aligned with course learning outcomes, supports curriculum-integrated assessments such as bell-ringer examinations, and contributes to the development of innovative teaching resources, including 3D-printed anatomical models, digital learning tools, and interactive educational materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate anatomy and physiology laboratories, tutorials, review sessions, and practical assessments (approximately 24–26 hours per week of direct student contact).
- Provide direct instruction, demonstration, guidance, and support to students in laboratory environments.
- Collaborate with faculty to deliver engaging, curriculum-aligned laboratory learning experiences.
- Support practical assessments, including bell-ringer examinations and other laboratory evaluations.
- Perform cadaver dissection, prosection, and preparation of anatomical specimens for teaching and learning.
- Maintain cadaveric collections, anatomical models, laboratory equipment, and teaching resources.
- Coordinate laboratory schedules, room bookings, equipment, and resource allocation across multiple health science programs.
- Develop and maintain innovative educational resources, including anatomical models, digital content, and 3D-printed teaching aids.
- Ensure compliance with WHMIS, biosafety requirements, and all laboratory health and safety standards.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to continuously enhance laboratory operations, student learning, and the overall educational experience.

Education

Postgraduate degree (e.g., Master’s) in Human Anatomy or a related discipline is required. -
Additional certifications: WHMIS, Standard First Aid, CPR.
Experience

Minimum of 2 years of related experience in a post-secondary teaching environment. -
Proven experience facilitating adult learning in bioscience or related fields.

Expertise in cadaveric dissection and anatomical specimen preparation.

Experience planning and coordinating lab schedules and resources.

Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and learning management platforms.
