About the Role:
As our Child Youth Worker, you will work as part of a vibrant team to provide care and support to young people living in staffed homes within their community. You’ll encourage and empower the youth we support to be independent, self-determining, and live the life they envision while maintaining excellent standards of care, health, and safety. Your natural ability to care for others and work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team will allow you to influence your team’s success.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES:
- SERVICE TO SUPPORTED PERSONS
- Gathers information relevant to the supported youth’s problems, needs and risks by interviewing, observing behavior, meeting with caregivers and service providers and using a variety of inventories, checklists and questionnaires. Reviews the information gathered to identify problems, needs and risks.
- Develops and implements short-term, issue specific intervention plans within program guidelines in consultation with the supervisor.
- Plans, prepares and conducts group or individual counselling sessions using techniques such as active listening, conflict resolution, basic group counselling and basic psycho-educational group methods to resolve the identified problems, needs and risks.
- Provides skill building in areas such as self-care, safety, financial awareness, budgeting, anger management or self-management techniques.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of the intervention plan, reports on supported youth progress, and discusses related concerns with the supervisor in order to resolve identified problems and move towards defined objectives.
- Maintains and records relevant information in the youth’s, staff and any other communication books/logs and provides reports to supervisors as required.
- Record medication distribution, weight and any other pertinent information on each youth.
- To be responsible for and record up-to-date financial records for each supported youth and account for petty cash.
- Liaises with and/or promotes the interests of supported youth with other community service providers, professionals and school personnel as required.
- Communicate and update supported youth’s family as required.
- Drive and accompany supported youth to meetings and appointments as required.
- To work in conjunction with the supported youth to ensure that their home is well maintained and tidy, including daily food preparation and light housekeeping duties.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- STAFF AND ORGANIZATION
- Outlines services provided by the program and/or organization. Provides information on and referral to other community service providers, resources and professionals as required.
- Contribute to the overall Health and Safety of the program, including record keeping of any home repair of maintenance needs as they occur. Participate in OH&S drills and inspections, as required.
- Participate in staff meetings, multi-disciplinary team meetings and care conferences, as requested.
- Grade 12 education or Post-secondary Diploma in the community social services/youth services/health care field.
- One (1) year recent related work experience in the community social services/youth services/health care field
- Must be willing to get a Criminal Records Search
- Current first-aid and CPR certification
- Unrestricted Class 5 Driver’s license. If driving a commercial company vehicle, a Class 4 license is required.
- Any qualifications or skills required of the Licensing Officer or the funding body
