Location: Squamish – Foundry Sea to Sky Start date: August 1, 2025
Hours of Work: Approx 15 hours per month Compensation: As per HEABC Medical

ABOUT SSCS:

Founded in 1978, Sea to Sky Community Services (SSCS) is a leading social service provider

in BC’s Sea to Sky Corridor. We operate within a large geographic area - from Pemberton to

Britannia Beach. We offer 41 programs and services that support and enhance the lives of

residents through all ages and stages of life. Our programs include early childhood

development, childcare, counselling, family support, youth services, community living

services and affordable housing. We help create healthy, connected and diverse

communities where everyone can grow, develop and lead meaningful lives.

Contribution:

The Medical Director provides clinical leadership for the Foundry Sea to Sky team in close

collaboration with the Foundry Sea to Sky Leadership Team including, but not limited to,

representation from SSCS, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), Ministry of Children and Family

Development (MCFD), and others. While the service area will primarily be Squamish, the

Medical Director will be involved in developmental conversations related to services

throughout the Corridor.

This is a Part Time contracted position whereby the duties include a combination of

leadership and operational oversight, as well as consultation, service development, and

direct patient care.

This position plays a key role in promoting a positive, vibrant, and healthy workplace culture.

Qualifications:

  • A Medical Degree and eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and

Surgeons of British Columbia.

  • Clinical leadership experience and a proven track-record in clinical practice.

Job skills and abilities:

  • Demonstrated experience and interest in serving the 12-24 aged youth population
with particular knowledge in areas including but not limited to: mental health and

substance use, eating disorders, gender affirming care, as well as other areas of

practice relevant to the youth population.

  • Demonstrated commitment to on-going learning and professional development,

and an advocate for a positive work environment and change management.

  • Uses sound business acumen to develop and foster collaboration and effective
working relationships with stakeholders that promote cooperative goals and

contribute to an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect.

  • Applies conflict management skills and expertise to persuade and negotiate

effective resolution of issues / disputes.

  • Inspires a shared vision and aligns performance goals and objectives for primary
care staff with Foundry vision and mandate to ensure a match with service delivery

strategy, while maintaining group cohesiveness, motivation, commitment and

effectiveness.

  • Provides timely and appropriate advice and consultation, utilizing effective targeted

communication strategies to gain acceptance of recommendations and to

facilitate effective decision-making and operations within the context of the medical

staff by-laws.

  • Builds credibility, understanding and trust in the external community to assist the SSCS
and the Foundry Sea to Sky team to meet its strategic priorities.

Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Fosters collaborative working internal and external relationships that support the

clinical practice and ongoing development of primary care services with an

emphasis on providing team based primary care.

  • Establishes and maintains effective and regular communication links with the

Foundry Sea to Sky team, to ensure effective engagement, efficient working, and a

supportive safe collegial working environment.

  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders to develop, manage and evaluate clinical

programming, ensuring consideration of client needs, service delivery and team

relationships within a complex primary care environment.

  • Implements effective performance management processes for clinic-based

physicians and primary care providers.

  • Ensures clarification of roles, adherence to accreditation standards and practice

standards for safe delivery of high-quality primary care.

  • Works with operational administrative support to coordinate an efficient, effective

and comprehensive physician work schedule and on-call schedule for the site, in

collaboration with other VCH colleague scheduling.

  • Works with Foundry Sea to Sky Leadership Team to monitor/track the physician

budget and contract delivery.

  • Represents Foundry Sea to Sky and SSCS and advocates for the work of the Primary

Care team as a medical leader in both internal & external settings.

Program Planning and Management

  • Implements SSCS practices and policy in Primary Care service delivery at Foundry

Sea to Sky and develops practices and policies in consultation with the Foundry Sea

to Sky Leadership team. As well, engages the Director of Clinical Service Delivery in

this process.

  • Implements strategic & shared decision making in partnership with the Foundry Sea

to Sky Leadership Team pertaining to local clinic operations.

  • Ensures integration of physician practice and specialty care at a local level by

communicating both the strategic priorities of Foundry BC and local operational

goals. Similarly, ensures engagement and communication with the Foundry Sea to

Sky team in relation to these priorities.

  • Co-ordinates the orientation and initial support for new primary care providers.

Quality and Safety

  • Creates an environment of evidence-based clinical practice that fosters professional

growth, wellness, and development of physicians; encourages participation in

quality improvement & research; and supports opportunities for teaching and

education of medical students, residents and other Primary Care colleagues.

  • Supports implementation of relevant clinical guidelines at the local level and

develops an evaluation process to measure the quality of clinical care rendered

with the resources allocated at the respective primary care clinics, for which the

Medical Director is responsible.

  • In conjunction with the operational manager partner, helps to ensure compliance

with legislation, safety standards and policies to provide a healthy and safe

environment for patients and staff.

  • Provides direct service to clients.
