About the job
Reporting to the Director, Health & Safety, in this role you will:- Coordinate and support the implementation of OCWA's Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) management system, programs, policies, and initiatives across the Agency.
- Research emerging health and safety trends, legislative changes, and industry best practices, and provide recommendations to support continuous improvement of OH&S programs.
- Conduct risk and impact assessments related to health and safety legislation, directives, workplace incidents, and organizational initiatives.
- Provide advice, guidance, and interpretation to managers, employees, Joint Health and Safety Committees (JHSCs), and health and safety representatives on a broad range of occupational health and safety matters.
- Assist with the development, delivery, and evaluation of health and safety training programs, workshops, communications, and awareness initiatives.
- Support workplace incident management activities, including monitoring trends, analyzing data, and recommending strategies to improve safety performance and reduce workplace risk.
- Coordinate health and safety projects and initiatives, including project planning, stakeholder engagement, tracking deliverables, and reporting on outcomes.
- Develop and maintain health and safety communications, procedures, guidelines, and reporting tools to support compliance and employee awareness.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including the Ministry of Labour, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), safety organizations, and industry partners.
- Participate on committees, working groups, and project teams to support the delivery of corporate health and safety priorities.
- Perform other duties, projects, and assignments as required.

Mandatory requirements
- Must have ability to travel overnight within Ontario
Technical Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, standards, and best practices, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and workplace injury management principles.
- Experience supporting health and safety programs, policies, procedures, or compliance initiatives within a corporate, industrial, utility, municipal, or operational environment.
- Experience conducting research, analyzing legislation, policies, trends, and workplace safety issues, and developing practical recommendations.
- Knowledge of project management and coordination principles to support organizational initiatives and program implementation.
- Experience developing and delivering training, presentations, workshops, or awareness programs.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other business software tools.
Interpersonal, Communication and Analytical Skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to prepare reports, briefing materials, procedures, training materials, and corporate communications.
- Excellent presentation and facilitation skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences and deliver training effectively.
- Proven consultation and relationship-building skills to work collaboratively with employees, managers, union representatives, JHSC members, regulatory agencies, and external stakeholders.
- Sound analytical and problem-solving skills to assess risks, identify trends, evaluate workplace health and safety issues, and develop effective solutions.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, and sound judgment when addressing sensitive, confidential, or potentially contentious workplace issues.
