Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Office Assistant / Ophthalmic Technician to join our Ophthalmology Clinic in Ajax, ON. The ideal candidate will assist in providing exceptional patient care, support ophthalmologists during examinations, and ensure smooth clinic operations.
This role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic medical environment, utilizing technical skills and compassionate patient interaction to improve vision health outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform preliminary eye tests and assessments, including visual acuity, intraocular pressure measurements, and refraction procedures.
  • Assist ophthalmologists during patient examinations by preparing equipment and ensuring patient comfort.
  • Maintain and operate ophthalmic diagnostic equipment such as optical coherence tomography (OCT) and slit lamps.
  • Manage electronic medical records (EMR) accurately using systems like Epic, ensuring all patient data is up-to-date and confidential.
  • Provide excellent patient care by explaining procedures, answering questions, and supporting patients throughout their visit.
  • Support front desk operations including scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and managing patient flow.
  • Assist with optical services such as frame adjustments, lens fitting, and retail sales of eyewear products.
  • Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment in compliance with safety and infection control protocols.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient clinic operations and high-quality patient service.

Requirements:

  • Prior experience in an ophthalmic practice is Mandatory.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records systems, particularly Epic, PS-Suite.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology related to eye care and general healthcare practices.
  • Experience with optical equipment is Mandatory.
  • Excellent patient care skills with a compassionate approach to diverse patient populations, including pediatrics.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Ability to work long hours.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of front desk responsibilities such as scheduling, insurance verification, and customer service excellence is a plus.

Schedule:

  • Day shift: Monday to Thursday (4 Days/ Week) - 7:15 AM - 5:30 PM

Job Type: Full-time (minimum: 40 Hrs/Week)

Pay: $20.00 per hour
