Reporting to the Executive Director, this position is accountable to provide regional oversight and leadership for the Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) Network across Fraser Health. Oversees and coordinates Ministry of Health (MoH) & Provincial MDR audits to ensure compliance with MDR standards and regulatory requirements. Working collaboratively with internal and external partners, this position leads and coordinates the MDR accreditation process, fostering alignment, integration, and consistency across all MDR sites within Fraser Health. This role provides leadership, supervision, mentorship, guidance, and ongoing support to assigned staff.
Working in close partnership with FH Perioperative Leadership and MDR Site Management, accountable to lead the development, review, and implementation of regional MDR strategies, policies, standard operating procedures, guidelines, workflows, evaluation measures, and reporting systems. Ensures MDR operations reflect best practices and are aligned with Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standards, provincial guidelines, and regional surgical growth and access priorities.
Provides regional oversight of MDR’s Sterile Processing Management System (SPMS), including the analysis of system data to identify quality and efficiency improvement opportunities. Collaborates with Digital Patient Provider Experience (DPPE) to support system maintenance, upgrades, and enhancements, and develops quality and efficiency performance metrics aligned with CSA standards and site-specific quality improvement priorities.
Oversees regional quality and system related inquiries, initiatives & projects and coordinates education and support needs from sites to the Network. Works in close partnership with key partners, including Facilities Management & Operations (FMO), Infection Control, Redevelopment Projects, the Ministry of Health, and Surgical and Anesthesia Network Leads, to ensure alignment with organizational and regulatory requirements. - Accountable to lead the development and implementation of Fraser Health regional MDR Network strategies, policies, standard operating procedures, and guidelines, including reviews as per CSA standards and updates required through practice changes or regulatory changes.
- Provides best practice expertise through strategic and operational planning, research and evaluation, financial assessment, forecasting/model development, SBAR and Business Case development associated with reviews of practice, procedures, systems and equipment.
- In collaboration with MDR Site Management, ensures the ongoing review and evaluation of strategies, systems, programs and outcomes are current and consistent with MDR best practices.
- Oversees, coordinates and monitors MDR Provincial and Ministry of Health audits of standards and regulations for all MDR sites across all Fraser Health, including scheduling, reporting, and follow up.
- Coordinates the MDR accreditation process across Fraser Health in partnership with the MDR partner group. Leads accreditation preparation, meetings, and coordinates site visit and documentation requirements.
- Oversees and reports on regional quality metrics such as Patient Safety Learning System (PSLS) events and Quality Improvement Tool (QIT) data.
- Oversees the Sterile Processing Management System (SPMS), including collaboration with DPPE on system maintenance and upgrades, development and implementation of quality and efficiency metrics and priorities, SPMS reporting aligned with CSA standards & quality improvement priorities, staff education, and workflow assessment and design.
- Provides leadership, supervision and guidance to designated staff using effective management techniques including but not limited to coaching and mentoring staff, conducting performance evaluations and enabling development opportunities, participating in recruitment activities and making hiring decisions.
- Oversees MDR capital equipment planning and budgeting, monitors expenditures, reports material variances, and recommends budget adjustments as required.
- Accountable to identify critical issues and outcomes necessary to achieve short, medium and long-term MDR strategies and Quality Assurance criteria and objectives. Provides advice and recommendations on matters related to the development and implementation of MDR goals, policies, practices and standardization.
- Ensure the needs of MDR are appropriately represented in the various initiatives related to Surgical Services. Advises on new alternatives to delivery practices which facilitate/support the effective and efficient utilization of resources in the provision of health care service delivery.
- Prioritizes and leads regional quality initiatives and projects. Directs and leads the development of action plans to meet designated goals within established timeframes. Acts as a subject matter expert in MDR renovation and development projects.
- Provides strategic leadership through consultation and collaboration with partners to ensure all facets of the project/initiative has been vetted in order to identify issues/areas of concern or identify risks which may impact project implementation readiness. Ensures all initiatives integrate seamlessly to support the overall goals of FH.
- Oversees Quality and Systems inquiries and regional education needs from sites to the Network, works in consultation with key partners such as Facilities Management Office, Infection Control, Redevelopment Projects, Ministry of Health, Surgical and Anesthesia Network Leads.
- Fosters effective relationships across FH, the other Health Authorities, and MoH to maintain support for all MDR initiatives and activities. Ensures partners are kept current of status; recommends and creates partnerships across Health Authorities as appropriate.
- Responds to inquiries from partners and Fraser Health Leadership regarding MDR initiatives, reprocessing practices, and the planning or status of MDR or SPMS, and participates on internal/external committees as required.
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Allied Health, Leadership disciplines such as Business, Health Administration, Project Management; supplemented by seven (7) years related experience in a complex health care environment with leadership experience in MDR, Quality, Infection Control and/or projects; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Professional/Technical Capabilities:
- Experience and/or knowledge of MDR processes, including infection prevention and control processes.
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in processes and protocols relating to MDR, surgical and perioperative areas with a focus on quality improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate change including the ability to implement new/revised systems and processes.
- Experience and expertise in project management including change initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to liaise with network leaders, provincial representatives and a range of partners including the public and physicians.
- Effective communication, organization, documentation, and reporting skills.
- Knowledge of current Provincial Health Care policies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
