The Opportunity: Offsite Project Manager

Due to continued growth, MacGregor’s Industrial Group is seeking a permanent, full-time Project Manager / Estimator to join our team.

This position is responsible for estimating, planning, coordinating, and managing a diverse portfolio of structural steel and mechanical projects from initial quotation through successful completion. Projects may include structural steel fabrication and erection, equipment installations, industrial maintenance, shutdowns, and custom fabrication.

The successful candidate will work closely with customers, engineering, fabrication, field crews, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate estimates and competitive quotations for structural and mechanical projects.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and tender documents to determine project scope, labour requirements, material quantities, equipment, subcontractors, and schedules.
  • Solicit and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Develop project execution plans, schedules, budgets, and resource requirements.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously from award through close-out.
  • Coordinate fabrication, procurement, field installation, and subcontracted work.
  • Monitor project costs, productivity, schedules, and profitability throughout project execution.
  • Manage project changes, scope revisions, and change orders.
  • Conduct regular project reviews to ensure work meets customer expectations and MacGregor's quality standards.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, consultants, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Visit customer sites to gather estimating information, attend site meetings, and monitor project progress.
  • Support business development activities by assisting with customer meetings and identifying new project opportunities.
  • Ensure projects comply with applicable safety standards, client requirements, and company policies.
  • Prepare project close-out documentation and evaluate project performance for continuous improvement.

Key Qualifications and Experience

  • PMP Designation, Gold Seal certification, Red Seal trade certification (Millwright, Welder, Ironworker, or related trade), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five or more years of experience in industrial estimating and/or project management.
  • Experience managing structural steel fabrication and erection projects, mechanical equipment installations, or industrial construction and maintenance projects.
  • Strong understanding of industrial fabrication, welding, structural steel, mechanical equipment, and field installation practices.
  • Ability to interpret structural, mechanical, and fabrication drawings and specifications.
  • Experience preparing quantity take-offs, cost estimates, and project budgets.
  • Strong financial and commercial awareness with experience managing project costs and profitability.
  • Excellent leadership, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional communication and customer relationship skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and estimating/project management software.
  • Experience working in unionized environments would be considered an asset.

Hours and Benefits

  • Ability for hybrid work location. Employee required to be located within 150km of MacGregors head office in New Glasgow
  • Company vehicle and fuel card or equivalent vehicle allowance will be provided
