Job Overview:
Under the direction of the Community Wellness Manager, the Support Relative will provide sustainable, wholistic wellness – mental, emotional, physical and spiritual - for Fort McMurray 468 First Nation members seeking support through Community Wellness. The primary focus of this position is to build relationships with members seeking support to guide them beyond crisis and urgency through the development and implementation of individualized wellness plans. The Support Relative works within a therapeutic framework, ensuring professional boundaries, confidentiality, empowerment, and sustainable support to guide improved wellbeing across mental, emotional, physical and spiritual realms. The position is part of an integrative support team that applies a culturally safe and trauma informed approach rooted in Cree & Dene worldviews.
Responsibilities:
· Build meaningful relationships with members through immediate, holistic and sustainable wellness support.
· Co-develop individualized wellness plans with members that focus on long-term goals that improves capacity, stability, and connection applying the Community Wellness framework.
· Support members with navigation and referrals to appropriate internal programs and external services to support mental health and wellness.
· Provide ongoing guidance and empowerment through wellness plans to monitor progress and to adjust goals and strategies as member needs evolve.
· Provide therapeutic support during crisis and critical incidents when appropriate, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
· Collaborate with an integrative wellness team to deliver seamless, wholistic care, develop and implement programs related to life skills, mental health and wellbeing, and support community and cultural events when appropriate.
· Co-develop and maintain a resource library for Nation members and staff.
· Maintain precise and well-organized records while ensuring full compliance with confidentiality standards and personal information protection regulations.
· Other duties as required.
Requirements:
· Degree or diploma in the Human Services field is (Social work, Child & Youth care) required
· Must provide proof of active registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers or other regulating body and maintain registration throughout the term of employment.
· 3-5 years of work-related experience is required
· Lived experience is considered an asset.
· Ability to provide a clear Criminal Record Check (including vulnerable sector) and Child Intervention Record Check
· Able to work positively, effectively and cooperatively within an interdisciplinary team.
· Possession of a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license and access to reliable transportation
· Strong administrative skills, including documentation, reporting, and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
· Excellent organizational, time management, and written communication skills
· Familiarity with available resources within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) and the ability to research additional supports for off-reserve members
· Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and critical thinking
· Ability to build trust and meaningful relationships with Nation members and external partners
· Comfortable speaking with individuals and groups, with a passion for supporting others
· Culturally safe, trauma-informed, and committed to respectful, inclusive practice
· Knowledge of and connection to FM468FN or other First Nations communities is a strong asset
· Ability to work a variety of shifts including daytime, evening and on-call on alternating weekends.
Successful candidate will be required to travel to Fort McMurray #468 First Nation daily
