Must be a fun, enthusiastic person who loves active outdoor activities (hiking, skiing, biking, and similar).

We are seeking a highly skilled and resilient Support Worker to provide dedicated assistance to a 22-year-old female client with anxiety, OCD, Tourette’s, and attention deficit disorders. This role requires exceptional patience, strong crisis management abilities, and the ability to effectively support an individual with complex, challenging, and aggressive behaviors. The ideal candidate will be a confident, compassionate professional who can foster independence and life skills in a structured residential setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized and structured support to help the client develop essential life skills, including time management, problem-solving, and self-care.
  • Effectively manage and de-escalate challenging and aggressive behaviors with a calm and professional approach.
  • Implement behavioral strategies to encourage positive coping mechanisms and personal growth.
  • Facilitate community outings and social activities while ensuring safety and engagement.
  • Plan and participate in fun, active outdoor activities (e.g., hiking, skiing, biking) to promote health, motivation, and routine.
  • Collaborate with the client to establish and achieve personal goals related to independence and daily living.
  • Administer medications responsibly and in accordance with prescribed guidelines.
  • Assist with light housekeeping and cooking duties while encouraging active participation from the client.
  • Accompany the client to appointments and support her in navigating social interactions.
  • Provide guidance and structured interventions to help the client resolve conflicts constructively.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of progress, behavioral incidents, and daily activities.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with the client’s family and other support team members.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and significant behavioral challenges, including aggressive behaviors, anxiety, OCD, Tourette’s, and ADHD.
  • Proven experience in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques would be an asset.
  • Comfortable with and excited about regular outdoor physical activities (hiking, biking, skiing at a casual pace).

Education/Certification:

  • Certification in Support Work or Youth Care Work (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification (preferred but not mandatory).
  • First Aid and CPR certification (required).
  • On-the-job training will be provided.

Licenses:

  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driving abstract.
  • Criminal record check required.

Work Environment:

  • One-on-one support in a private residential home setting.
  • A structured environment designed to promote skill-building and independence.
  • Fast-paced setting requiring attention to detail, patience, and adaptability.
  • Requires the ability to remain composed and professional in high-pressure situations (working with the client who can become dysregulated).

Schedule:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
  • 10 AM – 8 PM ($25–$35/hour).
