Marsh Hill Homes is seeking a Child and Youth Worker – DSW/CYC to join our growing team.

DSW/CYC – DSP 1

Marsh Hill Homes provides residential support to Children and Youth with a variety of complex needs/mental health challenges and additional vulnerabilities within designated our Children’s Services Programs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of a Diploma or Degree from a Community College or University in Child and Youth Care/Child and Youth Work or Developmental Service Worker. An additional- 1 year of related experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and/or Mental health and Behavioral challenges.
  • Solid understanding of Developmental Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and additional complex needs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a caring approach to working with adults with a developmental disability.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience supporting individuals with daily care requirements, behaviour support plans and individual support plans.
  • Ability and interest to be a positive member of a dynamic team.
  • Must have the ability to physically support children and youth.
  • Ability to complete and perform Crisis Intervention training – training provided as part of employment.
  • Understanding of Quality Assurance Measures an asset, training provided.

· Understanding of children’s licensing and experience in understanding of the framework required to support youth under the child and youth act

  • Valid driver’s License with a G.
  • Valid CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Successful completion of a VSS police check.
  • Medical clearance in accordance with MHH policy on pre-employment medicals.

MHH supports Children, Youth, Transitional Aged Youth, and Adults with Intellectual Disabilities, Complex Special Needs and a range of Neurodevelopmental Disorders. Due to our unique and purpose-built environment, we support individuals who may be hard to place in most community support settings.

Job Location – Marsh Hill Homes – North Durham – Port Perry/Epsom ON

Position Status – Full Time –days, evenings and occasional weekends are required

Rate of Pay: FULL TIME $29 ($3hr Wage Enhancement included-three month probationary period $27 ) and PART TIME $24 ($3hr Wage Enhancement included)

Hours of work – 40 hours per week

Support and training we provide:

  • Understanding and Managing Aggressive Behaviour
  • Quality Assurance Measures Training
  • Medication Handling and Distribution
  • Positive Behavioural Support Training

About the Role:

CYC/DSW – DSP 1’s take the lead in the direct care of individuals supported by MHH. Staff are provided the resources, support and guidance to ensure care is of the highest standard and creates meaningful interactions and experiences for staff and those we support. In this role DSP’s will:

  • Provided primary care and supervision to individuals supported by MHH.
  • Support individuals with activities of daily living as required or directed.
  • Provide support and coaching to individuals in the areas of social skills, communication and preferred recreational activities.
  • Contribute solutions to barriers that may impact the quality of life of individuals we support and ensure individuals goals are met.
  • Follow Behavioral Support Plans, Crisis Support Protocols as documented and directed. Develop and maintain positive relationships with individuals, their family, and care teams.
  • Administer Medication as required and trained.
