Full job description
Alice House is seeking a compassionate and skilled Outreach and Support Worker to support women and children impacted by intimate partner and domestic violence, with a particular focus on French-speaking and newcomer women and families.
This position combines direct client support in the areas of housing stability and economic independence, with community outreach and partnership development in order to promote safety and healthy relationships.
The ideal candidate will be fluent in French and English. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively, facilitate programs, provide client support, and complete documentation in both languages.

Key Responsibilities
Client Support
- Provide trauma-informed support to women and children impacted by domestic violence.
- Assess client needs and connect individuals with community resources and supports; advocate for clients as required.
- Participate in case conferences and safety planning.
Housing Stability & Economic Independence
- Support clients in achieving housing stability and financial independence.
- Facilitate workshops and educational programming related to housing, financial literacy, and life skills.
- Assist with eviction prevention and housing-related challenges.
Community Outreach & Education
- Deliver presentations, workshops, and awareness programs on domestic violence, healthy relationships, and safety.
- Build and maintain relationships with community organizations and service providers.
- Represent Alice House at community events and initiatives.
Newcomer & Francophone Engagement
- Develop and deliver outreach and education initiatives for newcomer and French-speaking communities.
- Promote awareness of Alice House services and supports.
- Help to ensure that Alice House services are culturally responsive, accessible, and inclusive.
Administration & Team Participation
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records.
- Complete reports, statistical tracking, and program documentation.
- Participate in team meetings, training, and organizational initiatives.
This is a general overview of the position and duties are subject to change at the discretion of Alice House.
What you need:
- Post-secondary education in Social Work, Social Services, Psychology, Women's/Gender Studies, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Fluency in French and English (written and spoken) is required. Additional languages are valued.
- Experience working with individuals experiencing crisis and trauma.
- Knowledge of domestic violence, trauma-informed practice, and survivor-centered approaches.
- Experience in community outreach, facilitation, and partnership development.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time on-site in downtown Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
- Work hours are Monday to Friday with an 8-hour workday, which includes 1 hour of paid breaks. Flexible start/end times to meet client needs.
- Ability to walk short distances, sit for extended periods, and climb up to 3 flights of stairs at a time.

Principales responsabilités
Soutient aux clients:
- Offrir un accompagnement tenant compte des traumatismes subis aux femmes et aux enfants victimes de violence domestique, y inclus des orientations vers des services spécialisés
- Évaluer les besoins des usagers et les mettre en relation avec les ressources et les services d'aide disponibles au sein de la communauté.
- Participer aux réunions de concertation et à l'élaboration de plans de sécurité.
Stabilité du logement et indépendance économique:
- Soutenez les clients dans la stabilité du logement et l’indépendance financière.
- Animez des ateliers et des programmes éducatifs liés au logement, à la littératie financière et aux compétences de vie.
- Aider à la prévention des expulsions et aux défis liés au logement.
Sensibilisation communautaire et éducation:
- Animer des présentations, des ateliers et des programmes de sensibilisation sur la violence domestique, les relations saines et la sécurité.
- Construire et maintenir des relations avec les organisations communautaires et les prestataires e services.
- Représenter Alice House lors d’événements et initiatives communautaires.
Nouvelles arrivantes et engagement francophone:
- Développer et mettre en œuvre des initiatives de sensibilisation et d’éducation pour les communautés de nouveaux arrivants et francophones.
- Promouvoir la sensibilisation aux services et soutiens d’Alice House.
- S’assurer que les services d’Alice House soient culturellement adaptés, accessibles et inclusifs.
Administration et participation de l’équipe:

Conditions de travail
- À temps plein sur place au centre-ville de Dartmouth, en Nouvelle-Écosse.
- Les heures de travail sont du lundi au vendredi avec une journée de 8 heures, incluant 1 heure de pause payée.
- Des horaires de début et de fin flexibles pour répondre aux besoins du client.
- Capacité à marcher sur de courtes distances, à rester assis longtemps et à monter jusqu’à 3 étages d’escaliers à la fois.
