Position Type: Full-Time Permanent

Compensation: starting wage $53,860 per annum

Location: Toronto, ON

Hours of Work: 37.5

The Sound Times program is one of the oldest and largest programs in North America providing mental health and addiction services in downtown Toronto. Informed by our personal experiences in the mental health, addiction, and criminal justice systems, we have dedicated our practice to providing advocacy and direct services to our community of peers.

The Community Service Worker will work in partnership with all the staff to provide a supportive and accommodating environment to provide direct service to the members of the Sound Times program. Services are non-appointment-based and include assistance with securing resources and brief interventions related to problem-solving and advocacy based on the individual’s self defined needs. Services may include coordinating medical and legal services, both of which are available at clinics within Sound Times.

What You'll Do:

You will be entrusted with a wide range of responsibilities, including:

  • Engage with individuals and identify opportunities for support
  • Provide information, advocacy, and support
  • Work collaboratively with individuals to promote self advocacy
  • Refer and ensure linkages to appropriate services
  • Maintain timely documentation as per Reconnect’s policies
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with other services

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Relevant university or college education, or a minimum of two years of related direct service experience
  • Working knowledge of the criminal justice system, mental health, and addiction services

What We're Looking For:

To thrive in this exciting role, we seek candidates with:

  • Personal experience as a service user of the Mental Health, Addiction and/or the Criminal Justice system
  • A deep understanding of the effects of the marginalization of individuals experiencing mental health and addiction issues and the barriers to accessing services and supports.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Creative problem-solving skills, flexibility and determination
  • Ability to use Microsoft based applications and work remotely as required

Special Requirements:

  • Criminal background check;
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, as required.
