The Pinnacle Hotel Harbourfront is looking for our next great colleague to take on the role of Cook 1. As a member of our culinary team, you posses excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills, along with a keen eye for detail to help ensure all food items coming out of the kitchen are of the highest quality and prepared in a timely and efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing food items according to recipes and quality standards, including special meals and/or substitute items.
  • Regulating temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, and roasters.
  • Preparing, maintaining and monitoring quality control for hot and cold food items including, but not limited to, meat, fish, fowl, sauces, stocks, sea
  • Maintaining consistency through appropriate portions, arrangements, and garnishes.
  • Maintaining accurate food logs; promptly and proactively communicating food quality or shortage issues with Sous Chef and/or Executive Chef.
  • Helping to maintain constant cleanliness and proper sanitary condition of all food storage and kitchen areas, including the line and prep kitchens etc
  • Practicing correct food handling and food shortage procedures according to applicable local, provincial, and Company standards and regulations.
  • Visually inspecting all food items from the kitchen prior to service. Performing additional duties, as assigned.
  • Performing all other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum of 1-year previous experience in a similar capacity, or 2 years previous experience as a Cook 2.
  • Food Safe certification required. Red Seal certification is an asset.
  • High school diploma / G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Fluent English language skills: both written and verbal.
  • Ability to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up to 11.5 kilograms (25 pounds) without assistance.
  • Frequent bending, standing and walking for extended periods of time required.
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Exceptional ability to use sound logic and good judgment at all times within a high-pressure work environment.
  • Must be self-directed, motivated and demonstrate exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong knowledge in restaurant operations as well as previous Banquet kitchen experience.
  • Must be familiar with breakfast cookery.
  • Fully abreast with latest food trends.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule to meet the business needs of a hotel environment, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
