Manager of Health and Safety – Confidential Job Posting
This is a permanent full-time position located in our Edmonton office with visits to our customer locations across Western Canada.
Reporting to the General Manager, we are looking for a strong leader in the Safety department to support our growing company.
Job Requirements:
- Promote a safety culture with your safety team and throughout the entire company
- Oversee the development and maintenance of the company’s health and safety program as per industry standards in the Oil and Gas industry
- Guide and Investigate vehicle accidents, injuries, and safety incidents, prepare and submit related reports
- Interpret and promote regulations, policies/procedures to front line employees
- Manage the development of annual health and safety plans for the company based on a full review of health and safety-related needs
- Ensure compliance with all occupational health and safety legislation, legislation changes and updates to enhance the occupational health and safety programs
- Provide up to and including C-Suite, with advice related to health and safety recommendations, legislative requirements and best practices
- Represent the organization in matters of health and safety with the government, health and safety associations and other outside organizations.
- Ensure all accident and incident investigations are conducted by the safety department thoroughly and effectively
- Follow-up with all workplace investigations to ensure corrective actions or preventative measures and processes have been implemented and documented
- Create a learning culture to encourage ongoing coaching, learning and development to all safety department members
- Oversee and provide support to managers and C-Suite for the annual safety program audit to ensure the effectiveness of occupational health and safety programs
- Prepare and maintain all safety documents to prepare for COR Audits
- Manage the coordination of inspections, investigations, and occupational safety of the company
- Ensure job site safety compliance is completed through inspections, hazard analysis, safe work procedures, written reports, and recommendations
- WCB case management- coordinate medical recovery and safe return-to-work plans for injured workers through adjudicators, case managers, and structured recovery goals
- Conduct periodic inspections and observations of work areas and liaise with Managers Supervisors and the front line employees relating to matters of Safety
- Ensure that all requirements are met of the Health and Safety Program to all staff
- Monitor compliance with company procedures and processes through internal safety management program
- Monitor, evaluate, and act on all sub-standard conditions and work practices.
- Provide support and direction to the front line employees in the use of the in house safety software programs
- Assist with maintaining electronic record keeping for all site-specific training activities
- Coordinate and participate building and testing of the office and off-site emergency plans
- Coordinate, prepare, and assign orientations for new hires as required
- Report as required to the General Manager on safety issues and concerns that may require their involvement or attention
- Participate in creating, reviewing, and administering company policies
- Promote Safety awareness and responsibility through town hall and safety meetings, communications, and training programs.
Team Support & Leadership
- Provide input and feedback on annual employee performance reviews
- Maintain communication with representatives at our company customer locations
- Create a positive culture amongst your team
- Lead by example to promote a positive safety culture within the office and at our client visits
Qualifications
· Previous experience working in the oil and gas sector would be considered a strong asset
· Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equal job related relevant experience required
· Minimum of 5 to 10 years of progressive experience in Occupational health and safety.
· At least 3 to 5 years in a supervisory or management role overseeing safety programs.
· Deep knowledge of regional and federal OHS legislation, acts, and codes.
· Proven ability to run risk assessments, Job Hazard Analyses (JHA), and incident investigations.
· Strong communication, leadership, and conflict-resolution skills to train staff and manage safety committees
