Position Summary

The Purchaser is responsible for sourcing, procuring, and coordinating the timely delivery of materials, components, equipment, and subcontracted services required to support Genesis Metalworks' fabrication and manufacturing operations.

This role works closely with Project Management, Production, and Quality teams to ensure materials are available when needed, purchased competitively, and meet all customer, quality, and technical requirements. The Purchaser plays a critical role in supporting project schedules, maintaining supplier relationships, managing costs, and ensuring the efficient flow of materials throughout the organization.

The successful candidate will be highly organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while supporting Genesis Metalworks' commitment to quality, on-time delivery, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Source and purchase raw materials including structural steel, plate, sheet metal, pipe, tubing, hardware, welding consumables, and production supplies.
  • Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations to ensure competitive pricing, availability, and delivery schedules.
  • Create, issue, and manage purchase orders while ensuring accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, lead times, and contracts with suppliers to maximize value and minimize costs.
  • Identify alternate suppliers and sourcing strategies to reduce procurement risks and improve supply chain reliability.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Support purchasing activities for capital equipment, tooling, and outsourced manufacturing services as required.

· Coordinate with Project Managers, Engineering, and Production teams to understand project requirements and material priorities.

· Monitor project schedules and ensure materials are available to support fabrication and delivery milestones.

· Track open purchase orders and proactively address supplier delays or shortages.

· Manage material deliveries and communicate status updates to internal stakeholders.

· Assist in planning inventory levels for commonly used materials and consumables.

· Support job costing initiatives through accurate purchasing records and cost tracking.

· Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, pricing, delivery, and responsiveness.

· Ensure purchased materials meet specifications, drawings, certifications, and customer requirements.

· Coordinate with Quality and Receiving teams to resolve material discrepancies and non-conformances.

· Support supplier qualification processes and supplier performance improvement initiatives.

· Maintain material certifications, traceability records, and procurement documentation as required.

· Assist with supplier audits and quality-related corrective actions when necessary.

· Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier databases, and procurement reports.

· Monitor inventory levels and support inventory control initiatives.

· Ensure ERP/MRP purchasing data remains current and accurate.

· Prepare purchasing reports, spend analysis, and supplier performance metrics.

· Support continuous improvement initiatives related to procurement processes and supply chain performance.

· Ensure compliance with company policies, quality standards, and customer requirements.

Must Haves:

· Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations, Manufacturing, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

· 3+ years of purchasing or procurement experience within a manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial environment.

· Strong understanding of metal fabrication materials, manufacturing processes, and supply chain operations.

· Experience sourcing materials, negotiating pricing, and managing supplier relationships.

· Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office applications.

· Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

· High attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferred/Assets:

· Experience purchasing steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and fabrication-related materials.

· Experience working within ISO 9001-controlled environments.

· Knowledge of CSA N299, nuclear quality requirements, or regulated manufacturing industries.

· Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP), PMAC, or related certification.

· Experience working with custom fabrication, welding, machining, or industrial manufacturing operations.

· Knowledge of inventory management and material planning best practices.

Pay: $65,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
