Full job description
SolutionFirst Therapy | Virtual / Remote | Independent Contractor
SolutionFirst Therapy is growing, and we are looking to add a Sex Therapist to our virtual mental health platform to support individuals and couples navigating intimacy concerns, sexual health challenges, relationship difficulties, compulsive sexual behaviours, communication barriers, and emotional disconnection.
This role is ideal for a therapist who is comfortable discussing sensitive topics in a professional, grounded, and non-judgmental way while providing thoughtful, evidence-informed, client-centred care. You would work alongside our growing therapist network to help clients build healthier relationships, improve intimacy and communication, strengthen emotional connection, and better understand themselves and their needs.
About SolutionFirst Therapy
SolutionFirst Therapy is a Canadian virtual mental health platform that connects clients with therapists based on their clinical needs, preferences, and goals. We support individuals, couples, veterans, first responders, and workplace/corporate partners through timely access to care and thoughtful therapist matching.
Our approach is practical, structured, and goal-focused. We believe therapy should help clients build momentum, gain clarity, and create meaningful change — not feel endless or directionless.
As demand continues to grow, we are expanding our therapist network to better support clients experiencing intimacy concerns, sexual health challenges, relationship conflict, emotional disconnection, shame, attachment difficulties, compulsive sexual behaviours, and related mental health concerns.
Role Overview
The Sex Therapist will provide virtual psychotherapy sessions to individuals and couples referred through SolutionFirst Therapy. Clients may present with concerns related to intimacy, sexual functioning, communication difficulties, desire discrepancies, compulsive sexual behaviours, relationship strain, shame, trauma, attachment issues, emotional regulation, anxiety, or self-esteem challenges.
We are especially interested in therapists who can provide practical, inclusive, trauma-informed, and non-shaming support while helping clients better understand relational dynamics, emotional patterns, boundaries, communication, and healthy intimacy.
Experience supporting couples, betrayal trauma recovery, LGBTQ2S+ clients, or clients navigating complex relationship dynamics would be considered a strong asset.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide virtual psychotherapy sessions to individuals and/or couples
- Support clients experiencing intimacy concerns, relationship challenges, sexual health concerns, compulsive sexual behaviours, or emotional disconnection
- Develop treatment plans and collaboratively defined therapy goals
- Help clients improve communication, emotional awareness, relational patterns, and healthy intimacy
- Maintain clear and timely clinical documentation
- Collaborate with intake coordinators and internal team members when appropriate
- Identify when clients may require additional psychiatric, medical, or specialized support
- Maintain ethical and professional standards in alignment with regulatory requirements
- Contribute to a supportive and collaborative clinical environment
- Using a "we want to help our clients no longer need us" mindset
Qualifications
- Registered Psychotherapist, Social Worker, Psychologist, or equivalent licensed mental health professional in good standing with the appropriate regulatory college
- Training or experience in sex therapy, couples therapy, relationship counselling, or intimacy-related clinical work preferred
- Experience supporting couples, betrayal trauma recovery, or compulsive sexual behaviour concerns considered a strong asset
- Comfortable providing virtual care
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with a broader clinical team
- Familiarity with trauma, attachment, anxiety, shame, emotional regulation, and relationship dynamics considered an asset
- Additional training in sex therapy, EFT, Gottman Method, CBT, ACT, trauma-informed care, EMDR, or related modalities would be welcomed
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who is grounded, compassionate, emotionally intelligent, and able to approach sensitive topics with professionalism and without judgment or stigma.
Many clients seeking support around intimacy, sexuality, or relationships may carry shame, anxiety, confusion, or emotional pain, and we value therapists who can create a safe, supportive, and practical environment for growth and healing.
The right clinician will understand the importance of balancing empathy with structure while helping clients build healthier relationships, improve communication, strengthen emotional connection, and move toward meaningful change.
You should be comfortable working in a growing organization where processes are being built thoughtfully, and where the focus is on quality care, strong therapist-client fit, and meaningful clinical outcomes.
