Junior Commodity Lumber Trader

About the Company

Skana Forest Products Ltd., established in 1987, is a manufacturer and distributor of quality lumber and forest products across North America. With remanufacturing facilities in Vernon, BC and Herbert, Saskatchewan, we specialize in SPF, Douglas Fir, Pine, Plywood, and Western Red Cedar.

About the Position

We are looking for a motivated Junior Commodity Lumber Trader to join our Sales team in Richmond, BC. This is a great opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional who enjoys building relationships, reading the market, and closing deals.

You will receive on-the-job training while working with our experienced team in North American and export markets. The role combines phone work, client interaction, and trading desk duties.

We offer a starting salary of $50,000, transitioning to a 100% commission structure (potential $100,000+ per year) after 1–2 years based on performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build strong internal relationships with Sales and Admin teams.
  • Coordinate shipments with transportation partners, regulatory agencies, and customers.
  • Manage daily shipping transactions and logistics.
  • Prepare accurate export and shipping documentation.
  • Track shipments and resolve delivery issues promptly.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Strong English communication skills (both verbal and written) is mandatory, with the ability to interact clearly and constructively with peers, suppliers, customers, and stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work under pressure while maintaining professionalism.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.

Assets (Nice-to-Haves)

  • Post-secondary education in Business or related field.
  • Basic knowledge of shipping, logistics, and scheduling.
  • Sales experience and/or knowledge of wood products/lumber industry.
