Full job description

Overview

We’re looking for someone who wants to help grow a business, not just have a job.

This role is a bit of a mix. Part of your time will be spent finding retailers across North America that should be carrying Happy Hippo and ROAM products and going after them. The other part will be spent helping our production team make better decisions with better data.

You’ll work pretty closely with our leadership team and get a good look at how a growing manufacturing company works.

Happy Hippo makes bath and body products sold by retailers across Canada and the U.S. ROAM makes natural deodorant for people who would rather be outside doing something than sitting on the couch.

We design our own products, manufacture them ourselves and sell them ourselves. We launch a lot of new stuff, try a lot of ideas and are always looking for ways to do things better.

Duties

  • Find stores across Canada and the U.S. that are a good fit for Happy Hippo and ROAM
  • Reach out by phone and email and follow up. A lot.
  • Build relationships with retailers and turn them into long-term customers
  • Pitch new and seasonal product collections
  • Keep your sales pipeline organized
  • Occasionally travel to trade shows and customer meetings
  • Help set and communicate weekly production priorities
  • Look at production and productivity data
  • Find trends, bottlenecks and things we could be doing better
  • Build and maintain useful reports
  • Help leadership understand what is working and what isn’t
  • Work with production, purchasing and admin to keep everyone on the same page
  • Help improve systems and processes
  • Turn a bunch of data into something people can actually use

We already have a great production team. You won’t be managing their day-to-day work. Your job is to help them, and us, make better decisions.

Skills

  • Driven — you like having something to chase and you like winning
  • Resilient — getting told no doesn’t bother you much. You move on and keep going
  • Analytical — you like numbers and figuring out what they’re actually telling you
  • Resourceful — you don’t need someone standing over your shoulder telling you what to do next
  • Accountable — if you say you’re going to do something, you do it
  • Comfortable picking up the phone and calling people you don’t know
  • Good communicator
  • Good with numbers and Excel
  • Organized and dependable
  • Able to keep track of a lot of moving pieces

We can teach you our products, our systems and how we do things. We’re much more interested in finding someone smart, hungry and willing to figure things out.

A Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration or something similar is preferred. New grads are absolutely welcome to apply.

Experience in sales, retail, customer service, manufacturing or operations is great, but it isn’t required.

A valid Class 5 driver’s licence and reliable vehicle are required.

Location

Red Deer based: Full-time in our Red Deer office.

Edmonton based: A mix of working from home, our Edmonton office and our Red Deer office. You’ll usually be in Red Deer about one day a week often driving with other members of the Edmonton team.

If you want to show up, do the same thing every day and go home, this probably isn’t the job.

If you want to learn how to find customers, grow brands, figure out why production is working or not working, improve systems and see how decisions actually get made in a growing company, you’ll get a lot of exposure here.

You’ll work directly with the people making the decisions and you’ll be given real responsibility.

There’s a lot to learn, a lot to do and a lot of room to grow with us.

If that sounds interesting, send us your resume. We’d love to meet you.

Pay: $20.00-$27.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • Casual dress
  • Flexible schedule
  • On-site parking
  • Paid time off
  • Store discount

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Red Deer County, AB T4S 2K5: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree (required)

Language:

  • English (required)

Licence/Certification:

  • Class 5 Licence (required)

Work Location: In person
