Undergraduate Co-op Student – R&D Biologics Discovery

What you will do

Amgen British Columbia, located in Burnaby, is a research center of excellence focused primarily on the use of cutting-edge platform technology for the discovery of therapeutic antibodies. We are seeking talented, highly motivated students to join our Biologics Discovery team to learn and utilize skills in the field of immunology, cell biology, molecular biology and biochemistry. You will join one of the functional teams at Amgen British Columbia, partnering closely with a supervisor and contribute to projects that could potentially have a direct impact on human health.
Potential Functions:
- Learn and apply basic and modern lab techniques (e.g. tissue culture, flow cytometry, imaging, automation).
- Participate in the development of novel experiments and methods.
- Utilize advanced fit-for-purpose laboratory instruments and systems.
- Application of the knowledge from researching literature to experiments.
- Experimental design, execution, and data analysis/documentation.

Basic Qualifications
Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an undergrad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:
- 18 years or older
- Currently enrolled in a full time Bachelor’s Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
- Completion of one year of study from an accredited from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing
- Enrolled in a full time Bachelor’s degree program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university
- Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree concentration(s) in Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline
- Able to work for two consecutive four months terms (8 months total)
- Previous lab experience, completion of previous co-op term(s), or internship experience
- Ability to read and synthesize scientific literature
- High attention to details
- Strong written and oral communications skills
- Ability to function effectively as part of a team
- Excellent organizational, record keeping and time management skills
