Full job description

Are you great with kids, organized, energetic, and confident managing a busy group?

We are looking for a responsible, enthusiastic and dependable Afterschool Program Coordinator at our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy to help supervise and support our afterschool students while they are not participating in their Jiu Jitsu classes.

Our ideal candidate has previous professional childcare or youth-program experience/education and is comfortable creating a fun, structured, and respectful environment for children.

Our After School Program combines childcare, recreation, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. While our instructors take care of the Jiu Jitsu, you’ll help keep everything else running smoothly—creating a fun, structured, and welcoming environment for students before and between their classes.

This is a great fit for someone with experience in childcare, education, recreation, youth programs, child development, psychology, or a related field who genuinely enjoys working with elementary-school-aged children.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise afterschool students and maintain a safe, welcoming, and positive environment
  • Help maintain appropriate behaviour and noise levels within the afterschool area
  • Help students get changed into their gis and ensure they are prepared and ready for their Jiu Jitsu class on time
  • Keep track of class schedules and help students transition smoothly between the afterschool program and their Jiu Jitsu classes
  • Ensure that Jiu Jitsu is kept in the designated training areas: no Jiu Jitsu or roughhousing in the afterschool area
  • Organize and lead occasional age-appropriate activities such as games, crafts, and other group activities
  • Supervise snack time, including distributing snacks when needed
  • Prepare the afterschool area for the day's activities and clean and organize the space throughout and at the end of the day
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and engaging environment for students
  • Communicate appropriately and professionally with students, parents, and other staff members
  • Follow all academy policies and safety procedures

Qualifications

Required:

  • Experience working with or caring for children in a structured setting, or relevant education/training in a field such as child development, education, psychology, recreation, or a related field
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable, punctual, and responsible
  • Comfortable supervising groups of children
  • Ability to maintain a calm, positive, and structured environment
  • Ability to set and maintain appropriate boundaries with children
  • Comfortable working independently while also being part of a team

Preferred:

  • Experience working in an afterschool, childcare, recreation, or youth-program setting
  • Experience organizing activities for children
  • Experience working with elementary-school-aged children

Driver compensation is additional and discussed separately.

Perks

  • Free Brazilian Jiu Jitsu membership
  • Opportunity to participate in and learn Jiu Jitsu in a supportive academy environment
  • Opportunities for additional hours through the driver position

Pay: From $25.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • Casual dress
  • On-site parking
  • Store discount
