Description

Job description

Oxford International Junior Programmes offers a range of summertime ESL programmes at carefully chosen centres in the UK, Canada, and the US. Our programmes aim to create a study experience of educational value, of cultural interest, and, of course, full of fun and memories to take home.

Our Vancouver summer program is based at the The University of British Columbia*, where students receive a combination of 15 hours English language tuition per week and a comprehensive programme of activities and excursions. The activity programme will include daytime and evening activities as well as half-day and full-day excursions to attractions and places of cultural interest.

We are currently looking for staff for contracts of various length from end-of-June to early August 2026 (programme dates are June 21 – August 9, 2026). A limited number of residential positions are available. Full board accommodation included in residential position employment packages available.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Activity Leader plays a key role in our Junior Programme, and will lead groups of students on trips and activities in a safe, fun, and responsible manner. More than a chaperone, Activity Leaders engage with students to spur discussion (in English!), answer questions, and act as a positive role model.

Activity leaders may also be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing on-site activities that are inspiring, dynamic, and most importantly - fun!

Person Specifications

You are:
  • A confident, outgoing and sociable character.
  • Have a positive, “can-do” approach to work.
  • Demonstrate high levels of professional conduct.
  • Demonstrate respect for equal opportunities and respect for race and diversity.

It would be great if you:
  • Have experience of working in a residential setting.
  • Have experience of working with 9–17-year-olds.
  • Hold a valid First Aid qualification and / or a lifeguard certificate.
  • Are familiar with the UBC campus, downtown Vancouver, and other Vancouver attractions.

Requirements
  • Eligible to work in Canada
  • Strong communication skills. You’ll always be leading students in either activities or on excursions.
  • CEFR C1+ English Proficiency
  • Great organizational skills with a proactive planning approach.
  • Flexibility, adaptability and ability to cope with changing priorities.
  • A drive to work with fun, like-minded people to work collaboratively and contribute to team success.
  • The ability to motivate a group of young people.
