The Parks, Recreation and Culture Department is seeking an experienced Outdoor Recreation Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Instructor to support community-based programs. In this contract role, you will deliver safe, high-quality instruction in accordance with City policies and safety standards, helping participants of all ages build paddleboarding skills in an enjoyable and supportive environment. Duties include managing participants, addressing safety site concerns, preparing programs, and completing required incidents and attendance reporting. Performs related work as required.

The Outdoor Recreation Stand Up Paddleboard program operates at Barnet Beach and includes group and semi-private lessons for youth and adult participants. Hours vary based on program schedules and registration levels. This casual contract position offers flexible work on weekdays and weekends between May and September.

Our ideal candidate will have post-secondary education and/or experience in outdoor recreation programs and instruction. We are seeking individuals who have 1 year minimum experience in outdoor recreation programs and instruction and are 18 years or older of age. A background in outdoor recreation programs and providing instruction to participants across a wide range or ages and skill levels is highly valued, along with the ability to lead effectively and uphold safety standards in alignment with organizational policies. Exceptional customer service skills are essential to this role. You will hold a Paddle Canada Instructor Course Basic and/or Advanced Flatwater Instructor training, as well as Paddle Canada Advanced SUP Skills Course or equivalent. A valid Class 5 driver’s license to travel between program sites is preferred. A valid Wilderness First Aid or equivalent 20+ hour First Aid certification with CPR Level C is highly preferred, minimum Emergency First Aid with CPR-C is required. If you are a confident and skilled paddleboarder with experience teaching participants of all ages, we want to hear from you!

Pay Rate: $31.52 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits (2026 Rates)

Location: Barnet Beach

Hours of work: This is a contract instructor position. Hours and shifts are based on programmed courses and may vary due to registration levels.
