Who we are:

Valley Waste & Recycling Inc. is a liquid and solid waste management company that has been servicing the Fraser Valley for over 20 years. We pride ourselves on keeping the streets clean, providing excellent customer service, and supporting the communities we serve!

We currently have an opening for a full-time, permanent Senior Accountant. This position comes with an extended health benefits and RSP package after successful completion of the first three months of employment and competitive wages.

Who you are:

An extremely organized person, have high attention to detail, and work well under pressure and with tight deadlines. We're looking for either an experienced Senior Accountant, or someone with relevant skills and experience that could move into this role as progression. The hourly wage for this position is negotiable based on relevant education and experience.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain records of financial transactions by establishing accounts, posting transactions, and ensure legal and government requirements are in compliance for multiple companies.
  • Assist and oversee with monthly reconciliation of all general ledger accounts.
  • Maintain historical records by filing and scanning documents.
  • Identify issues and errors, investigate discrepancies, discuss with management, and provide recommendations.
  • Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes.
  • Assist with monthly reporting including preparation of KPI information.
  • Assist with government reporting, including but not limited to payroll remittances, GST, and PST.
  • Assist with bi-weekly payroll processing.
  • Posting of daily receipts into system and reconciliation of daily transactions.
  • Provide coverage and ongoing support for the AR department.
  • Understand and follow safe work procedures at all times.
  • Perform other relevant duties as required.

Specific Skills & Qualifications:

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Word, and Adobe
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Strong prioritization skills within a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work overtime as needed
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills to meet external and internal deadlines
  • Ability to analyze and problem solve
  • Ability to take initiative with unclaimed tasks, starting new projects, and completing their workload as necessary
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, accuracy, and confidentiality

Education, Experience, Language:

  • Designation preferred, not required (or relevant education and experience)
  • Experience with full cycle bookkeeping and accounting for owner-managed business
  • Knowledge of GST/PST
  • Proficient skills in Netsuite or similar software
  • Fluent in English (reading, writing, and speaking)
  • QuickBooks experience (an asset)

Pay: $32.00-$36.00 per hour
