Field QC Advisor – Pipeline Construction

Weaver Group Ltd.
Local to Grande Prairie | Project-specific assignments

Company Overview

Weaver Group Ltd. is an independent, Alberta-owned and operated contractor specializing in pipeline, facility and heavy civil construction, integrity services, facility maintenance, and land reclamation throughout Alberta, BC and Saskatchewan.

Founded in 1994, our roots are in the field. We bring experienced crews, skilled tradespeople, and hands-on leadership to demanding construction and maintenance projects. We value safe execution, quality workmanship, accountability, and a respectful work environment.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Field QC Advisor with a strong welding inspection and quality control background in pipeline, plant, and facility construction.

Reporting to the QC Manager, you will perform field inspections, develop and implement inspection and test plans, maintain quality records, and ensure turnover packages meet client deadlines. You will also support the company Quality Management System through audits, document control, training, and corrective-action follow-up.

We are looking for someone who understands the technical requirements, communicates clearly with construction teams, and follows quality issues through to resolution.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation based on qualifications and experience.
  • Camp accommodations provided for assignments requiring camp stays.
  • Hands-on involvement in pipeline and facility construction.
  • A collaborative team that values technical knowledge, accountability, and quality workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Verify construction activities meet approved drawings, specifications, applicable codes, and client and company requirements.
  • Develop and implement inspection and test plans, checklists, and supporting quality documentation.
  • Perform visual and welding inspections within certification, endorsement, and supervision requirements.
  • Take, record, and report required welding parameters.
  • Verify construction modifications arising from RFIs, NCRs, and other deviation notices against specifications and approved changes.
  • Maintain material traceability, weld maps, as-built records, and redlined engineering drawings.
  • Prepare and review hydro-test packages and coordinate inspection and testing activities.
  • Compile complete turnover packages within client-specified schedules.
  • Control quality manuals, procedures, work instructions, forms, records, and applicable standards.
  • Perform internal quality audits and support supplier quality monitoring.
  • Track non-conformance, corrective-action, and preventive-action reports through investigation, follow-up, and authorized closure.
  • Monitor equipment calibration and maintain supporting records.
  • Provide QMS training, respond to quality inquiries, and consult the QC Manager as required.
  • Maintain quality metrics, recommend improvements, and protect proprietary information.

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in pipeline, plant, and facility settings.
  • CWB Level 1 Welding Inspector certification with ASME B31.3 and CSA Z662 endorsements.
  • Experience and certification in visual testing (VT).
  • CSA W47.1 or CSA W59 endorsements considered an asset.
  • Red Seal Journeyperson Welder qualification preferred.
  • Strong understanding of CSA Z662 and ASME B31.3 quality control requirements.
  • Working knowledge of applicable ASME, API, and CSA construction codes and ABSA requirements.
  • Knowledge of fabrication and field installation processes, including steel fabrication, welding, and machining.
  • Experience with weld mapping, as-built drawings, redlining engineering drawings, and preparing hydro-test packages.
  • Ability to create and review technical documentation, including project plans, test procedures, design documents, and ITPs.
  • Ability to take and report welding parameters accurately.
  • Experience developing and maintaining quality metrics and conducting quality audits.
  • Proficiency in Adobe, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid H2S, First Aid, and CSO safety certifications.
  • Valid driver’s licence and an acceptable driver’s abstract.
  • Ability to maintain certifications and endorsements required for assigned work.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work accurately under pressure.
  • Effective communication skills and confidence addressing quality concerns with field personnel and management.
  • Ability to work independently within assigned authority and certification requirements.
  • Availability for project travel, camp assignments, and overtime as required.
